Dan Maloney was hired as coach a the beginning of the year.

Personally I think goaltending was the reason for the dramatic improvement. Gone were Steve Penney and Brian Hayward, along came Daniel Berthiaume and Pokey Reddick. Both played amazing that year, especially Berthiaume.
