I just read this story on current bids for the 2018 Winter Olympics, to which QC has not entered. I was reading comments on it and I guess there are posters wanting it to be in QC but people were discussing whether they actually have the landscape (e.i mountains for ski/snow board events) to do it. Do you think they can? tsn.ca/olympics/story/?id=348920LAUSANNE, Switzerland -- The International Olympic Committee has received all three official bid books from the candidate cities looking to host the 2018 Winter Olympics. Munich, whose bid committee includes former ice skating star Katarina Witt, became the third bidder to hand the book over to the IOC before Tuesday's deadline. Annecy, France and Pyeongchang, South Korea, had already presented their bid books to the IOC, which will undertake site inspections in all three cities in February and March. The IOC Evaluation Commission will then prepare a report that will be published in May, with the host city to be announced on July 6 in Durban, South Africa. Munich is trying to become the first city to host both a summer and winter Olympics. "For the first time in Olympic history, Munich 2018 will demonstrate how Olympic venues (from the 1972 Games) can be transformed into Winter Games venues," said Bernhard Schwank, chief executive of the Munich bid committee.

It's too late for bids. And from what I've read, Pyeongchang has it pretty much wrapped up........Unless Glendale decides to spend 250 trillion to build a winter Olympic Village and some mountains.

That could be the checkmate on their arena deal.

Still, only a few months ago, Mayor Lebeaume said he was initiating his "Plan B" and going ahead with plans to build the rink without federal funding and would find the difference elsewhere. Not sure if this is still ongoing, but considering they pre-sold all the luxury boxes at full price and have a waiting list of 50 (for an arena not yet built), it's not looking too too bad just yet. We will see if the ~100 million can be found (hmm... oh Quebecor?)

South Korea? Oh boy. The security costs are going to be astronomical. And if some crazy North Korea dictator wanted to show off a Nuke, that would be the time.

In the future, why not? But I wanna see Harbin in China do it first!

Quebec will get the 2034 Olympics. LOL....maybe Winnipeg could a bid in for the summer games, but I'm guessing Toronto would be the next place.

They aren't large enough to be considered to host the Olympics. Just simply not enough hotels available to host an event this large.

From living through the 2010 bid, I can tell you just getting the bid together is a major challenge that takes a pile of money. If your accepted thats when the real money gets spent. I'm talking world class money, billions with a B. There was doubt that Vancouver had enough rooms and we're a heavy tourism town.
