Interesting article in Cornwall Ont. Seaway News called Atlanta Has to Move after they stole their own Zamboni as a publicity gimmick! It's been awhile now but I havent seen anything about it on these boards. Among other things the article and the You Tube blurb says their Zamboni was stolen on purpose by their mascot Thrash to sell tickets. "Now to the Atlanta Thrashers. The best thing about hockey in Atlanta is the original Flames Logo from the 70's and players like Eric Vail, Tom Lysiak, Guy Chouinard, Dan Bouchard and Willi Plett. Mr. Bettman for heavens sake, Winnipeg, Hamilton and Quebec City are drooling for the chance to return to the NHL. When an NHL team has to steal their own Zamboni to attract the attention of fans, they ought to have researched the audience, as it is likely many do not even know what a Zamboni is, little lone what one is used for. Surely, the Winter Carnival in Quebec City or the Steel city of Hamilton would never have that problem. Winnipeg, well no one ever questioned the fans in the “Peg.” " ... www.cornwallseawaynews.com/Opinion/Columns/Sports%20%E2%80%93%20by%20Thom%20Racine/1969-12-31/article-2079457/HBO-247-Atlanta-Has-to-Move/1In cased you missed it, here is a YouTube blurb about the stolen Zamboni. www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_jdMskMLnEThere's more if you Google "Atlanta Thrashers Zamboni stolen". This must be so embarrassing for Bettman and the NHL, the Thrashers' days are probably numbered.

This is what the players are thinking when they do those spots.

Sounds more like a death plead than a promotional comercial.
"Please! Please buy tickets!...Please!"
"hmmmmmmm.....no."

More embarrassing stuff from Atlanta to try and draw fans: this tweet came in today: Stay in your seats after the 1st period tonight to see 2 season ticket holders get married on the ice in a real wedding.

Also there was a story about the Thrashers who boast 5 black players, 1/5 of the total in the NHL in attempt to appeal to their black community in hopes to sell more tickets.

IMO that was unintentional, they're good players... Not sure why that would matter (the players being black). Because Atlanta is a predominantly black community, with very very very little historical and cultural relation to hockey. It would be like having a pro sumo wrestling circuit in Winnipeg. A very small minority of Winnipeg would have any interest in sumo wrestling at all.

Thrash was actually caught tring to cross the border into CANADA. He had no passport, told border guards he had a job in Winnipeg waiting for him. GB heard and quietly had him escorted back with offer of free tickets to keep everything quite.

Not sure why that would matter (the players being black). Because Atlanta is a predominantly black community, with very very very little historical and cultural relation to hockey. Well the problem is that more often than not backfires, if someone who is not African American mentions it. Even if someone who was black had mentioned it, it would likely have no effect on interest in hockey within the black community. For instance, I am Canadian. If some Asian news reporter mentioned that Lacrosse is Canada's national sport, and the Canadian team is very good, I would be impressed he/she knew this fact. Aside from that, I have no interest in Lacrosse and it definitely would not want me to pick up a lacrosse stick in the immediate future, nor sway way personal belief that Lacrosse is a boring sport. The reason why so few black people don't play hockey in the USA is likely because of the gap in income levels between different ethnic backgrounds. Most simply cannot afford to play hockey. In Canada, it is a different story, as our social services to lower income people are far superior to our US counterparts.

In Canada, it is a different story, as our social services to lower income people are far superior to our US counterparts. The main reason why so few blacks play hockey in the USA is because it is not cold in the south, there is no snow, and there are not as many hockey rinks as there are basketball courts.

I'm not talking about the south. I'm talking about the USA in general. Anyway, who cares? Jerome Iginla is one of my favorite players, and I do not even notice he is of mixed race, until the media pointed it out.
