wildfiremike Mike Carroccetto #NHL >> attendance at Columbus tonight: 9,802, a new low for a Blue Jackets game in the Nationwide Arena. #Coyotes, next move is yours!
damn. I support Northern Hockey but Columbus was a pretty bad idea by the NHL. Cleveland may have been a better idea. Ohio is football country anyway

Columbus did have decent attendance for a while. But they have had such a crappy team every year.

I actually don't have a problem with Columbus. At least people there know what ice is. I think Ohio is a tough place for the NHL to grow anyways, Columbus isn't that far from Cleveland or cincinnatti, and those cities are pretty full with sports teams (reds cavs bengals browns Indians). Also, haven't these two cities economies taken a beating in recent history?
I would rather see a team in Columbus then in Phoenix, Atlanta, Miami, and even Dallas.

I am starting to get a bit of deja vu, all this speculating about every single team that is in trouble and picking apart attendances. We kind of did all of this 4-7 years ago. Are we really no further ahead if the Coyotes stay in Phoenix?

In all honesty, I wish the NHL would just grant us an expansion team. I know it is unlikely but it would sure be nice to get a team that way instead of waiting for an existing team to sell their franchise to us. It doesn't seem right to have to hope for misfortune and low attendance for any location so that they will be forced to lose their team. I know we would all welcome a relocation of any troubled franchise to Winnipeg but at the same time an expansion team would relieve us of the burden to continue hoping for someone else's misfortune. If we had a team we could stop thinking about all the negative things (like low attendance, team bankruptcies, etc) and just concentrate on following our own team.

I don't disagree, but honestly if we got a team tomorrow, I would still eagerly await the death of the Coyotes, Thrashers, Panthers, Predators, Lightning and a few others. And when they eventually left it would bring a smile to my rosy red cheeks (which would be rosy red from being outside playing pond hockey, something people in those towns would never do). Of course more than anything I want a team. But out of spite, it will also make me very happy to see those places that don't deserve and never supported a team lose their teams. DF may have to be civil because he is the figurehead of such a large campaign, but I sure as Go Jets Go don't and stand by these comments!

Advice to Columbus....change your name to OHIO I made the same argument on another board & the Columbus fans got all pissed off about that idea. However, that team needs to be marketed differently. No one knows where Columbus is, but they do recognize Ohio. Also, that team is in the wrong division & wrong conference. They need to be in the Atlantic Division. Proximity to Pittsburgh would provide them with a natural rival since they currently have none. Not to mention, they are an Eastern team playing a Western schedule. If you look at a map, Columbus is pretty much in the same longitude as Atlanta, yet is in the Western Conference. This makes zero sense. Move Columbus east & have unbalanced conferences. It's been done in the past with the old Patrick Division, so there is no real reason why it couldn't be done now.

Cleveland is in the Rust Belt, so yes. Cincy has done okay, but is basketball country exclusively....

I would like to hear what (forget his name exactly) Doug McLean from Sportsnet, the guy who used to run the Blue Jackets, would say to justify the NHL in Columbus rather than Winnipeg.

Its just a matter of time as i dont think these teams can afford 4-7 years of more loses. Regardless of whether a team is coming to Winnipeg or not i think that a team in crisis bombshell apart from Phoenix is in the not to distant future.

The Jackets DO have fans - they've just been so bad that people are pissed!
I was at the NHL Draft when Columbus had it (2007) and when the Jackets were up to pick (5th overall, they took Jakub Voracek) the place was deafening
Their fans are like old Whalers fans - white-collar, hard working people who go bananas when they score.

Columbus could be outstanding if they ever get out of the Western Conference...

Just heard on TSN' Studs and Duds segment that Columbus held a rally for their team and were giving away 200 pairs of free tickets to their home opener and only 100 people showed up. Haha, too funny, if it wasn't sad.
