Someone on the Montreal Canadiens board at HF is reporting that, during retirement interviews on the FAN 590, Chris Chelios said that if he had not been traded from the Canadiens to the Chicago Blackhawks, he would have been sent to Winnipeg in a trade involving Dale Hawerchuk. This could have changed the face of the Jets considerably.
The Jets used their 1st round pick in 1990 that they acquired as part of the Housley trade to draft Keith Tkachuk. Would they have been able to accomplish that in a Chelios trade? Would the Jets have held on to Chelios for this long, or would they have sent him out the door after a few seasons in exchange for Scott Arniel and Stephane Quintal as they did with Housley? What would your ideal Hawerchuk/Chelios blockbuster have looked like?
