If you could "unmake" something to prevent the Jets from leaving in 1996 , it would be either the building of Portage Place or the staging of the 1999 Pan-Am games, two huge wastes of money that prevented a proper arena from being built that would have kept the team here. I'm no fan of Bettman, but he is not the reason they left.

I don`t think we can call the Pan-Am games a waste. It did a lot for the city. Do you remember how $hitty Birds Hill Park was before 1999? It was horrible. They did a ton of work at the Forks and built a great ball park and renovated Winnipeg Stadium. I do remember there being talk about building a new arena in time for the games but that never materialized but to call the games a waste is going a little far.
