Thought you guys would like this one!!! LOL (sorry if its a reprint) Why does the NHL insist on attempting to keep teams in locations that do not readily support hockey (except when they are doing well). Just move the Coyotes back to Winnipeg, for crying out loud. Send one of the Florida teams to Regina or Saskatoon. And heck, I'd even put the Preds in Quebec City. -- Wren, Denver Wren - Easy there. Let's not give up on Phoenix and Nashville just yet. Both teams have started to see their attendance pick up again. And let's not overlook this fact: when the Edmonton Oilers were terrible in the mid-'90s, they often played to half-empty buildings. Was Edmonton not a hockey market all of a sudden? Detroit didn't sell out in the early '80s (Mike Ilitch had to give away a car every single game one year to get fans to come), so was Detroit not a hockey market? When teams don't win, they don't draw. Look at Denver lately. Winnipeg and Quebec are certainly "hockey markets" but we all know it's a lot more complicated than that, to have an NHL team play there. I am not aware of any season attendance average for ANY Canadian NHL team ever that would be half empty. I'll leave it up to the Oiler fans in the crowd to quote chapter and verse!
Half of 16,800 in Edmonton is only 8,400!! Yes some years the buildings weren't sold out. But to use that argument to say that canada would have lost more teams using the same yardstick now is ridiculous.

A couple of years from now I won't be one bit surprised if there's a new Bettman secret email "Frankly, if they're going to relocate, they should be offered to Quebec City first!"

I really don't see Saskatchewan supporting an NHL team. Regina and Saskatoon only have 200 to 300 thousand residents. The riders work cause there are 8 home games a year and a 3 hour drive south on a weekend is doable. People aren't going to be driving 3 hours from saskatoon to Regina for a tuesday night NHL game. or 41 times a year. The population is way too small

^ Doubt Sask will be in at all now. They are building a new stadium for the Riders. 400 million... I think all bids would be out now for any team!!!

Well they are going to discuss it next meeting, and more then likely will build from what was said. They voted on increasing taxes tho, or something, and the province agreed!~
