The current owners of the Toronto Argonauts may be considering putting out the For Sale sign.
According to TSN CFL Insider Dave Naylor of the Globe and Mail, Argonauts co-owners Howard Sokolowski and David Cynamon are weighing their options with the struggling team, from selling outright to taking on new partners.
The report indicates the losing on the field combined with the league's lukewarm reponse to their revenue sharing concepts has led Sokolowski and Cynamon to refocus their energies toward securing an NHL franchise.
With the uncertain future of the Phoenix Coyotes, the pair have turned their efforts toward backing a group making a push to buy the bankrupt franchise.
Some speculation has B.C. Lions' owner David Braley selling his current club and buying the Argonauts but the Burlington, Ontario native also referenced those rumours in a statment on Wednesday.
''Recent news reports have referred to rumours regarding my ownership of the British Columbia Lions. I want to stress that the team is not for sale,'' said Braley in a statement. ''I remain the team's owner, proud of its accomplishments, both on the field and in communities across British Columbia, and dedicated to its future success.
''As an individual, I have always strived to act in the best interests of the Canadian Football League, something that unites this country and that I care deeply about, and I will always do what I can to strengthen our league, and my team, the BC Lions.''
In 2003, Braley teamed up with Sokolowski and Cynamon to get the Argonauts out of bankruptcy and the CFL would not comment on whether a deal still exists between the two team owners.
