The paltry turnout for last night's Kings/Islanders scrimmage was particularly deflating for myself, as I expected this event to be our announcement to the sporting world that our fair city was ready for a third major-league club, only to emerge from the portal and find out we couldn't even sell enough seats to open the upper decks (for the record, only 3/4 of it was curtained off...but even that quadrant was nearly empty). A sizeable contingent of die-hards from various NHL and minor-league fanbases turned out (including a Kings fan one section over heckling Lawson to hell and back), and I even saw a few Blades jerseys in the crowd, but at least half the people in the crowd sounded as if they'd never seen a hockey game their entire lives. Most of them had little idea of what the hell was going on. The guy sitting next to me confessed he showed up just to catch a few bodychecks and fisticuffs.
To be fair, last night's game played second fiddle to Zack Greinke bolstering his Cy Young resumé with a 6-inning, two-hit performance, but still should've firmly established, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that the likes of Winnipeg, Hamilton and Quebec deserve a franchise long before KC. We're simply not a major-league hockey town -- it's not in our blood, it's not our culture -- it's done well here as a niche sport, and therefore the new CHL team in Independence should fill the void left by the Blades. An NBA franchise, however, would prove a far more suitable anchor tenant for the Sprint Center.
Consider this my official endorsement for the Jets' return to Winnipeg.

Thank you for the endorsement of Winnipeg! You're view is shared by roughly all of Canada (outside the Ontario border and about 65% of Winnipegers). It's unfortunate that the NHL cares less about attendance and more about whole, immediate corporate dollars Our city, is by far a full blooded NHL city that is ready to take it's rightfull place back on the NHL map. It's about time Winnipeg is known for the city that got the Jets back, instead of the city that lost the Jets!! I just hope that you are not going on the Return of the Nords and the Hamilton "Coyotes" sites and saying the same thing

I just hope that you are not going on the Return of the Nords and the Hamilton "Coyotes" sites and saying the same thing I haven't seen any of the boards out there advocating relocation or expansion to Quebec or Hamilton yet; from what I've seen some people here aren't terribly fond of Balsillie's efforts; I'm still trying to figure out how he's gonna secure funding for a renovation of Copps with Ontario facing an $18 billion budget deficit, even if he manages to land a franchise.

I think that there is a bit of a mixed reaction here to the efforts of Jim Ballsillie trying to bring our beloved franchise to Hamilton.
1. Some feel that by Ballsillie winning this bid (and getting through the litany of NHL appeals), will open the floodgates of the other struggling teams and one of them will move here.
2. Others feel that the "CoyoteJets" should come here and Jimmy B. should stick to making cell phones and backdating stocks.
I have also not come across many (if any) Hamilton or Quebec City forums such as Jetsowner.com. Surely they do exist but none with quite as much passion and insight as you will find here.
What made me join this forum was the realization that the mainstream media would mention the odd blurb about the NHL returning to Winnipeg. The comments that followed were always by narrow minded people that think that Winnipeg will never and should never get a team again because we lost one almost a full decade and a half ago. I have always had the belief (that is shared my many on this site) that Winnipeg has the fans, has the corporate support and has a very, very wealthy ownership group. The only difference between them and Rim Jim is that they stay out of the limelight and will step up and reveal themselves when the time is right. All those people that think Winnipeg is some undeserving, one horse town will soon get the suprise of a lifetime!!
I also believe that you guys in KC will also have a team skating in the Sprint Center soon too! It won't be an AHL team either. Unless of course, you want our AHL Team. They did make the finals last year!!! ;D

Thanks for the endorsement.... I do agree with your assessment that KC would be better off with an NBA team....

KC deserves an NBA team, after all that arena was made to lure the NBA in mind.

KC deserves an NBA team, after all that arena was made to lure the NBA in mind. Rumor has it that Maloof might be moving the Kings after countless stadium proposals have fallen through (Sacramento is flat broke) and that KC is one of the candidates on the short list. Keeping my fingers crossed on this...
