i support more teams in Canada...first and foremost Winnipeg, but I would be happy to see a team in Hamilton, a team in QC and for that matter a second team in Toronto...I believe Canada could support 10 NHL teams...i won't hold my breath waiting for that to happen though...it's ridiculous thought that southern Ontario only has 1 NHL team...I mean London, England has 6 Premier League teams.

I support a team in Winnipeg and am wholly and utterly indifferent about any other teams in Canada. If it happens great, if not I'm not bothered. The only aspect that interests me in the slightest is that if another city would get one that would be (sort of) a good precedent so that too is purely a selfish interest for Winnipeg.

I would suggest that the way Mr. Balsillie's camp approached the whole Coyotes situation was viewed as completely out of order, in the BoG's eyes. That would be the material change in PSE's circumstances.

“We do not think that Jim Balsillie’s qualification to be an NHL owner is an issue in this case given his 2006 approval as an NHL owner,” said PSE spokesman Bill Walker.
“We note that the bankruptcy court Judge Hon. Redfield T. Baum ruled in his June 15 decision that:
‘Absent some showing by the NHL that there have been material changes in PSE’s circumstances since 2006, it appears to the court that the NHL can not object or withhold its consent to PSE becoming the controlling owner of the Phoenix Coyotes.’
~~~
Material changes in a prospective ownership and NHL partner goes right back to the NHL constitution and bylaws that state basically that the character of the individual(s) of the ownership group must have the right character to be chosen.
Well if Balsillie is asking for the NHL to divulge why he wasn't approved then the NHL has plenty to throw back at them! The NHL will leave that task to the hockey media, no doubt.
Timeline and changes: - Chosen as owner of the Pens in 2006. - then backed out of the deal almost last minute - then tried to buy the Preds from Leipold without consulting the NHL first - before even being accepted as owner, he started selling season ticket deposits in Hamilton without even making an application to the NHL to relocate the franchise he hasn't even been granted yet. - does an end-around of the NHL rules and wishes and cooks up this bankruptcy with Moyes again without informing the NHL.
Gee I wonder what has changed since 2006?
Is Balsillie really dumb enough to ask the NHL why he isn't a model owner?
Does he really want the media to point out all this dirt on his profile?
Every time another team comes up, he gets more and more desperate in decision making. That leads to even bigger end-arounds of the NHL pecking order. Leading to an even wider gap in what his character needs to be and what it is shown to be.
In other news, Moyes' past team, the Coyotes takes a $64.5 million "Balisllie haircut" to sell to Reinsdorf. I figured this would be funny considering this has now happened every time Balsillie has been involved in an NHL team auction and that Balsillie is as bald as a VW Beetle. << Sheps' hair ad here >>
