The big secret has been revealed...Lightning vs Oilers on Sept 24th.
I hope with all the "subtle hints" that have been dropped on this forum the past few months that this has some meaning!?

wasn't it reported somewhere recently that the Lightning's arena is 2nd in the USA for non-hockey events and that the Lightning control the revenue for non-hockey events??

That was second in the U.S. only to New York's Madison Square Garden. Since the Tampa Bay Lightning also controls much of the revenue at the St. Pete Times Forum, it may explain why the team's owners consistently deny rumours they are in financial difficulty."

So is this game being played here because of Tampa Bay or because of Edmonton?

its nothing more than an exhibition game. do not read anything into it other than that. we aint getting the lightning. Yup! Tampa Bay is on solid financial Footing! Well.......other than the fact they are laying off people left and right.....including their own Mascot. If that is any evidence as to how they are doing financially, and people here don't think they might be in a "bit" of trouble then, I must be confused. Saying Tampa Bay is doing solid, would be like saying Canwest is making record profits! * I should also mention, if the NHL Franchise is struggling and only being held up by the income coming into the St.Petes Forum but other Ventures such as concerts, etc. Why wouldn't they WANT to dump the NHL team so they can continue making money without having to pay to keep a struggling franchise there! It would be like owning a company that makes alot of money, and firing an employee you pay who doesn't do anything to help earn

The only two exhibition games to sell out since the Jets left have involved the Oilers.
About the pricing, if prices are $20-70 I'd be scared because that would signify that we don't have a chance and they are not taking anymore data.

i don't know if anything should be read into this, but...there seems to be a pattern here:
canadian team vs a reported financially struggling non-traditonal team
if they simply wanted to hold an exhibition game that was most profitable, why not invite a team like the Blackhawks (with Toews)or the Red Wings, etc. to play a Canadian team...

I was hoping it would be Anaheim just so Selanne could skate on Winnipeg ice one last time or Chicago for the Winnipeg boys and Khabibulin.
Interesting that it is Tampa. Wouldn't seem to be much of a draw so maybe there is something more to this-a kind of test of the market sort of thing. Perhaps the low ticket prices in Tampa this year are a last ditch effort to keep the team there.
There could be nothing to this at all. The optimist in me however believes there might be something more.

It will be interesting to see who the home team will be because that's the team that will send most of their starters.

never said Tampa was solid, we know it isnt, but that doesnt mean jack shitt and you know it Jimi. we AINT GETTING the Lightning!! Wow....calm down kid. First off, what source told you that we are 100% not getting the Lightning? Second, you never used the term "Solid" in describing Tampa's situation but, you made it seem as though things are still Rosey there. Shoudn't you change your name to "Bettman"? What's with this "jack shitt" business. Tampa is a failing franchise. If you don't think so; prove that they aren't! You don't need to express any attitude with me. Can you explain to me why as an owner, you would keep them in Tampa? There is a little more to this story.....

Wow, first, we hear about NY Islanders in Kansas City
then about a month later, I hear about Boston vs MTL in Quebec city
then 2 weeks later, Edmonton vs Tampa Bay in Winnipeg
two of these exhibition games has a financially troubled team and another one features a team that draws horrible crowds when they are below 4th in Eastern Conference
Could this be some sort of message or attempt at testing potential new/former NHL markets? Of course, Kansas City would be the worst move.
