But it wasn't Free Tickets Night. What, do you actually expect people to PAY to see this team? I think whoever suggested that this would be the first team to move is probably right. Even Phoenix seems more stable.

As soon as that is resolved through the courts...something big will happen. I kind of think this is the team that may be "on Bettman's radar" slated for Winnipeg if/when they relocate! Speculation on my part...maybe someone knows more!?

As as shaky as Atlanta is, I doubt that Phoenix is more stable than ayone at this point. Just my take on a comparison between these two cities: At least Phoenix seems to be getting SOME fan interest, and perhaps filling the stands to 50-60% capacity. As has been pointed out elsewhere, they're a good sports town (for other sports) and perhaps, given unlimited time and even more unlimited financial assistance, the Coyotes might actually catch on there. Plus the Coyotes as a team seem to have a bright future, regardless of where that future might be - they're a skilled young club and tough to play against. On the other hand, these shots of Atlanta look like about 40% occupancy. Kovalchuk must have constant backaches from trying to carry the entire team on his back. I think Atlanta has just given up. From what I've read (I can't point at any sources, unfortunately), Atlanta does not have a history of supporting ANY sports team particularly well. The NHL has already failed there once before. The impression I get is that Bettman will fight tooth and nail to keep the Coyotes in Phoenix (for personal reasons?), even to the point of giving them an unfair share of the revenue sharing pool, but that he isn't as personally vested in keeping the Thrashers in Atlanta. This is just speculation on my part, but it seems to fit what I've observed. I don't recall hearing him ever say anything specific about Atlanta, but he has several times mentioned something to the effect that the Coyotes aren't going anywhere. That's why I say that Phoenix seems more stable. Of course, that's not saying very much...

I've watched Thrashers games on TV and believe me, most all of their games the crowd looks as empty as in that picture.

Also in some arenas that are full in the NHL you don't know if all those tickets have been PAYED for... That's the deceiving part.

if the thrashers were winning, attendance wouldn't be a problem...
a winning team is solution to declining attendance...

There were ALOT of empty seats at Red Wings games this season. They were practically giving them away on ebay

but Darren, those pictures are decieving as it's only 5 minutes into the game and people haven't got to their seats yet... So you're saying people in the endzones all have the ability to get to their seats in time, but those in the corners and blueline can't?? Waay too many empties in a row or in a group. There may be a handful that still have to sit, but the clusters of empty seats are a giveaway that they aren't sold. People aren't paying the higher prices for those seats.

VERY Bad... But I still see Phoenix as a WORSE market because Atlanta has less postseason ALL-IN-ALL experience than the Yotes in their first few years, YET they're practically bankrupt...
