I wouldn't expect Atlanta to get more than a few draft picks and/or a couple of prospects for Kovalchuk since he is a FA at the end of the season. They definitely won't get anyone with a similar stature, so they can expect the fans to be pretty upset about it.

they won't get someone of a similar stature but they could pull a few good pieces given what they got out of pitts in the hossa deal

The return for the Thrashers could be substantial if they grant teams permission to talk to Kovalchuk's agent and a contract is worked out - certainly more than if he was just traded as a rental. I hope the Thrashers are very generous in granting teams that permission.

I'm watching the thrashers-rangers pregame right now (I'm from NYC) and the game Is in ATL...the place is empty. This is pathetic, there shouldn't be a team down there. I'm fairly new to following the return of the Jets campaign, and I desperately want to see a PHX or ATL move to Manitoba very soon.

Watching these games and seeing the pathetic attendance just adds to the frustration of Winnipeg NOT having a team....yet... It really cannot come soon enough!!

I really think something is on the horizon here!
1. The early season rumor from HNIC hotstove 2. The Kovalchuk "strange" situation 3. The team really going into the tank...deeper and deeper as the season goes on (8-1 loss tonight at home)!
These things are no mere co-incidences in my opinion. This is a classic situation of a team slowly but surely losing focus due to internal distractions...and losing focus might be the wrong terminology. A better phrase might be "losing interest" or just out and out "not caring anymore".
Look back at the Minnesota North Stars season when they found out they were moving to Dallas. They were a well placed playoff team...then found out about the move...and then simply tanked it.
Here is hoping that history is repeating itself here and now!!

Re:Attendance...
The Manitoba Moose (7550), as of this morning are averaging more than the Hamilton Bulldogs (4137) and the Toronto Marlies (3179) COMBINED!!!!

looked like about 5000 people were at the Thrashers game when I tuned in for a few minutes last night If this team doesn't move soon (hopefully to Winnipeg) then the league is an absolute joke....

http://www.birdwatchersanonymous.com...wo-month-delay Kovalchuk's lack of contract are caused by ownership problems. Here is a comment to this article.... I get into the games for free. Hell, I even park for free. But I’ve realized that until this organization makes an investment in my time – in me being a fan – that I’m not going to invest my time in them. I’ll be watching the game tonight on my (not HD-) TV. by CuckooForKovalchuk on Jan 12, 2010 9:15 AM EST reply actions 0 recs _____________________________________________________ By the way, the first link didn't work for me, try this one... www.birdwatchersanonymous.com

This is all good news with the team ending up in Winnipeg! No body wants to be an owner in Atlanta. Current owners do not want to commit big $$$ if they can not get out. Stall signing so team can be moved!
I can also confirm that Atlanta Spirit has been working hard to find new ownership. Prospective owners have been performing due diligence and kicking the tires. But there have been no announcements of additional partners so far. Any new ownership must be approved by the NHL Board of Governors and since there has been no public disclosure of new applicants to the BOG, I must infer that the efforts to add new ownership blood have come up empty to date.

No way this team can survive here much longer, Atlanta isnt a very good sports town as far as I'm concerned, even the Braves arent the draw they used to be, this town is fickle!

Every time I see highlights on TSN from ATL there is at best 5000 people in the arena. Last night vs Ottawa I saw several sections at ice level that had less than 10 people in it.

Check out the Blueland Chronicle blog "Another season of comical failure! And now, summerward..." on what they think of sports in Atlanta. Where the Thrashers fit in their market will be discussed in part 3 of 4 which has not been posted yet. Very good read. bluelandchronicle.blogspot.com/
