Back to the Lightning, that is one team that would look sweet playing on Portage avenue 42+ nights a year ;D It would be nice to nab them before they dump Vinny and Martin though. The very fact that they're trying to dump Vinny before his big contract kicks in is a pretty telling sign. When Nashville went up for sale in '07 and Balsillie almost bought and relocated them, they shed their salary big time and dumped most of their big contracts. Same thing happened to the Jets when they had to dump Selanne. I still think if any team relocates to Winnipeg, it'll be the Lightning. Selanne wasn't a dump, in fact the new owners had to approve the trade.

Tampa Bay isn't going anywhere. Florida might be a different story, but the Lightning are here to stay.

Too many Canadians and Americans from hockey areas down here in Tampa for the Lightning to fail.
Add to that a history of giving a non-traditional (from a Florida or Southeastern perspective) sport a chance (Rowdies in NASL, Storm in the Arena League)...and you can see why Vinik chose to buy them over NHL franchises in larger Sun Belt markets.
It has become a great story. By all rights I probably should be a Lightning fan. But I caught the Winnipeg bug before I moved down here.

Besides with Stevie Y in charge of running it, I think you guys will be fine and very competitive for years to come!

Lighting have a ton of great players and good management and ownership now...had terrible attendance a few years after cup and only a few years ago...team loses money and was sold for about $100 million which included land and arena lease...if they had a poor team for a while watch out...
