just what your favourite winnipeg arena memories are(don't have to be hockey related) mine would have to be watching my hero bret hart fight yokozuna in 1993 when i was 9 years old. Bret to me was the coolest man on the planet! another would be me and my buddy one afternoon were at the souvenir shop but we snuck past security (there really is none when no games are on)and we somehow got all the way up into the broadcast booth and the catwalk and the private boxes when no one was there but we were scared off when we saw some rats in a corner afterwards. We thought it would be cool if you could live in an arena like harold ballard that would be awesome!

I remember THE Dave Ellett goal against the Oilers during the playoffs... I was so tired, and the game was going so long - I was sitting in the second last row behind the Edmonton net. When he put it in from the blue line, strangers were high five-ing each other - the place was as loud as Bobby Hull's retirement night. The cheers just didn't last anywhere near as long. Which brings me to another great memory. I managed to get one of only 38 replica WHA jerseys autographed by #9 himself. A guy offered me $1000 for it, and when I said no, he offered me $2000 if I'd take a check. (I said no, but had to laugh). I've been to a lot of Jets games, a lot of loud Jets games, but the night they retired Bobby's number, my throat was sore before the game even started. That was the loudest and longest I've heard anyone cheer for anyone - it was deafening - and in the end, I think the only reason it stopped at all was because people were getting sore throats from the cheering! And then there was the time the Russians came back. I remember that they weren't playing anywhere else - that they wanted to play in Winnipeg - that they knew where Winnipeg was because of our history.. I remember seeing players like Zhamnov and others who soon after ended up in the NHL.

The toasted hot dogs found only behind sections 22/23 in the second tier commissions. Nothing better than a split hot dog bun being rolled on a grease roller, toasted in a press and finished with mustard, relish and onions (and whatever dung the prat ahead of you had when he didn't wash his hands after taking a piss).
I miss the old girl.
On The Ball City!
