Check out community centers, they should all be hiring for winter staff. Pretty easy stuff, supervise kids skating, play games with kids, etc.

If I ever went back to working a part time job. It would be in a grocery store, preferbly Sobey's. Why? All the hottest chicks work there. My first sexual expierience was with a co-worker from the grocery store I worked at. Many others soon followed.

That is just mean.. man the kid wants to work and earn a little cash... Good for you buddy... You could try and work somewhere close to your house... its would be more easy for you. Ask your school if there are any openings, that way you could work at the school. You could also try and work on the 'green team' next summer... they hire kids to clean up the streets and usually it's a lot of fun.

I was wondering if anyone knew of a job i could get at 13 years old.Send me a message if you have any ideas;) You can apply anywhere you want. You used to have to be 15 to get a job, but a recent change in the law does not limit your ability to seek employment. First thing you do is fill out a Child Employment Permit Application. It has to be signed by your parents, principal, employer and self of course. It is available here. www.gov.mb.ca/labour/standards/pdf/cep_app_form.pdfOnly thing is you cannot work during school hours, and if your grades start slipping your principal can pull your permit. SCHOOL COMES FIRST! Do not let anyone tell you that you have to be a certain age to apply. If they do ask to speak to a manager as to why you cannot apply. Tell them that by refusing to take your application they are in violation of Policy # L-15 of the Manitoba Human Rights Commission and you will file a complaint. www.gov.mb.ca/hrc/english/publications/policies/L15.pdfThis probably wont increase your chances of getting you a job, but it will show you know what you are talking about. Basically the only jobs you cannot get is Assembly Line/ Production, mining, open pit, quarry, or the handling of liquor. Laws Governing employment of Children in ManitobaChildren in Manitoba are protected from engaging in work that would constitute a threat to their health or education under The Employment Standards Code as well as other provincial statutes. The Code regulates conditions of employment and sets minimum ages for employment. The Employment Standards Code of Manitoba defines a "child" as an individual under the age of 16 years. Under the Code, no child shall be employed except with the written permission of the Director of Employment Standards and in accordance with the permit issued by the Department of Labour. The director shall not issue a permit to allow a child to work in a business if the safety, health or well-being of the child is likely to be adversely affected. Section 83(4) of the Code prohibits the employment of a child in an employment in which a substantive part of the producing, cleaning, altering, repairing or servicing of any material, substance, article, machinery or thing is done with machinery. A child who is permitted to work is protected with respect to all terms and conditions under employment law including minimum wage, overtime, general holidays, weekly day of rest and vacation pay, as are all employees covered by the Code. Under the Operations of Mines Regulation, enacted pursuant to The Workplace Safety and Health Act, an employer may not employ or permit the employment of any person under the age of 18 years in the underground workings of a mine or at the face of any open pit or quarry. Other provincial legislation may also affect the employment of youths. As an example, The Liquor Control Act prohibits the employment of persons under the age of 18 years in the sale, handling or serving of liquor. GOOD LUCK!

Hi Alexei,
Here are my two cents;
I got a paper route when I was 8 years old and haven't been unemployed since. As far as finances go I have NOTHING to show for it. Furthermore, it didn't give me any discipline or in any way contribute to a good work ethic. I think I am probably more bitter now about work because I wasted my childhood. (It really stops you from participating in extra-curricular activities like sports teams etc.)
The people who are most succesful and happy later in life are the people doing what they love to do... When you love what you are doing it never feels like work, so you naturally excel. So I would have to agree with your dad, clean your room, and once it's clean start exploring anything and everything that you have any interest in and when you find something you love just do it and enjoy it. This is what youth is for - exploration.
Enjoy your life and have fun in constructive ways. "Work" will be upon you before you know it. No need to rush.
Hope this is in some way helpful...
cheers, macitect
