Vancouver gets: -Roberto Luongo (G) -Lukas Kraijcek (D)
Florida gets: -Todd Bertuzzi (F) -Alex Auld (G) -Bryan Allen (D)
keeping in mind that Los Angeles offered up Alexander Frolov, Dustin Brown and Matthieu Garon, do you think that Florida got hosed?
discuss.

Considering Bertuzzi shouldn't even be in the league after his attack on Steve Moore, I think Vancouver got the better deal, but all and all, time will tell,Bertuzzi is still a presence and Auld's not bad, so who really knows!

Surprising the Panthers didn't get Cloutier instead of Auld out of the deal. I think big Bert will bounce back and have a big year next year.

Luongo isn't too happy about the trade at all... will Vancouver be able to sign him to a long-term deal... or will Luongo walk, making the Canucks lose out on badly on this trade.
However if Luongo does stay long-term in Vancouver, then I can definitely say Vancouver did well with the trade.
Also it is rumoured that Keenan purposely accepted less for Luongo to attempt to lure in Free Agent Defenseman Ed Jovanovski who is a buddy of Bertuzzi's...

i also read that Luongo is unhappy with the trade and that he wanted to stay with the panthers. Then why the heck didn't he sign the contract!?

I don't think Luongo will stay in Vancouver. I was not impressed with his reaction, actually his thinking that he had a deal in Florida if they met what he called nothing items (franchise publically stated he wouldn't be traded, his back up and his goalie coach) I couldn't see any team agreeing to that, either he is getting bad advice or his ego is huge for a goalie that has never been in the playoffs. I think Jovo will wind up back in Florida as well.

i also read that Luongo is unhappy with the trade and that he wanted to stay with the panthers. Then why the heck didn't he sign the contract!? he didn't sign the contract because Keenan has been lowballing him since last summer. i don't know the terms that were in place for him to return to Florida, but I'm sure that they either weren't giving him the money or the years (i think that he wanted a long term deal in Florida). Luongo is a top 3 goalie in this league, and he is able to steal games on a regular basis. The difference between Luongo and Kipprusoff/Brodeur is that where Kipprusoff/Brodeur face an upmost of 30 shots a game, Luongo usually faces inbetween 40-50 shots a game. I can't overly blame him for Florida's playoff drought, if it wasn't for him they wouldn't have done so well down the stretch last year to finish in 10th place in the East. I don't think he'll resign in Vancouver, but then again I don't think Bertuzzi would have either so atleast Vancouver got something, even if it's incredibly short term.

Tsn.ca is now reporting that Vancouver and Luongo will try and hammer out a deal...
As a few of you stated, I wasnt too impressed with Luongo's comments after he was traded either.

TSN said that he turned down 6.25 mill a year over 4 or 5 years. If that's true, how much does he want? Canucks have qualified him, so they will at least get a year out of him, I can't see him signing a long term contract with them.
I know AO8 thinks he is a great goalie and did provide good evidence to back it up, but still the guy has never played in the playoffs where the pressure is enormous, he has had a few token games with Team Canada. I don't put him with the elite goalies right now until he proves himself in the playoffs

i see what you're saying, but then realistically there are only two "elite goalies" in the NHL. name someone better than Luongo not named Brodeur or Kipprusoff.

I think it was a good trade, I think Bertuzzi is a good player, and everyone crys the blues (namely DBP) because he punched someone in the back of the head. Thats all he did... Unfortunatly, in this one event, it turned out terrible, and someone got their neck broken... (beacuse of the pile on, the landing, who knows)... Bertuzzi deserved a punishment, and a fine, and he got it. Being the Moral, good guy that he is, he went over board, and appologized in the media 7000000 times, Cryed on national televison explaining how sorry he was... The guy was a complete mess, and he went out there and said sorry again and again. ANd, did anyone see the replay? Did you see the Colorado Ave player jump on Bertuzzi and attempt to Punch him in the back of the Head while Bertuzzi was on top of Moore? Exact same crime, only bertuzzi didn't break his neck so it is suddenly acceptable. Is Driving Under the Influence only a crime when you kill people? GO BERTUZZI GO! (truthfully i don't like the guy that much, i just feel so bad for him that all this happened, and yes i feel bad for moore too).

I don't put him with the elite goalies right now until he proves himself in the playoffs It's not the money, he just wanted out of Florida. The below stats will explain why. Here are some Luongo facts. - Traded by Islanders (with C Olli Jokinen) to Florida Panthers in exchange for W Mark Parrish and C Oleg Kvasha, June 24, 2000.
- On February 27, 2002, stopped fifty-seven Detroit Red Wing shots and still lost, 3-2 in overtime.
- Holds the National Hockey League record for saves (2303) in a single regular season (03-04), yet managed only 25 wins
- Had only 28 less shots last season.
- 23.5% of his 115 Wins and 12.3% of games played (342) are by way of shutout, highest of any goaltender ever, including Terry Sawchuk (23.0% and 10.6%).
- Lifetime save% of .914, also highest among active goaltenders with at least 210 games played.
- Has never played on an NHL team that has made the post season.

No they won't. No Bertuzzi and no Jovocop... unless the Canucks get a lot of free agents they will not make the playoffs.

- - 17
- performed poorly in playoffs
Ed Jovonoski Roberto Luongo - the FRANCHISE
- best damm goalie of last 5 years
- future Stanley Cup winner

Todd Bertuzzi- 70 points in a BAD season last year. Alex Auld- An average NHL starter last year, obviously no comparaison to Luongo but hes not terrible. Bryan Allen- Top 4 D in the NHL. JovoCop- Top 2 D in the NHL.
Is Luongo really worth all that (if Jovonovski leaves)? I dont think so. Vancouver has some big holes to fill in the offseason. They have huge holes on D now that need to be addressed, and possibly some holes on forward as well.
Carter might leave, Morrison is not what he used to be... plus if Carter leaves, how will the Sedin's who had career years do next year? Will they match their point totals, or will production drop off?
If Vancouver can fill all their holes, props to them, but they've got alot of work to do in the offseason, and if they dont make a big splash, no playoffs.

OKAY OKAY.... First off I love Bertuzzi.. I think he did a dumb thing but he should be in the league.. I would explain my fight on this but it seems Ian took the words out of my mouth.. (GOOD JOB)... I am kinda sad he went to Florida and am happy we got Luooooo. Umm kinda wierded out that he is unhappy with the trade.. why .>?? I don't know .. he will like Vancouver better in time when he realizes its more of a hockey town. But the trade is great.. i suppose and we will see in the season if in fact Van won that trade off. We were at a hockey game at the Highlander when the trade was announced (buddie called Richie).. we were pretty stoked.
