5 years after the NHL returns to Winnipeg, how many new shops, bars, lounges, and restaurants will have opened downtown? (as a direct result of the NHL returning to Winnipeg)

There is all sorts of available space for bars, restaurants and speciality shops etc. With the ROTJ and the new Hydro building, there should be a huge increase in new businesses opening. Let's just hope they don't tear the buildings down and put up surface parking lots!

I voted for 26-30. A little too ambitious? Maybe. But I believe anyone with money in Winnipeg (and I believe there to be plenty) will want to take advantage of 16,000 people (Crowd + employees of MTSC + camera crew for t.v. games, etc.) coming downtown 45+ nights a year.
I say 27 new establishments will open downtown within the first 5 years of having NHL hockey back in Winnipeg!

That seems very ambitious since the demand will be easily satisfied by the supply. Here in Minnesota, we got a couple new ones and all the local ones got mega-upgraded. It costs more to eat downtown now, but you can take your girl there and feel like a mack daddy

Well I think we can all agree on one thing; that downtown will explode with business once 16,000 people are coming down there 45 nights every winter.

i want to make a sports bar type thing, for all the extra fans who might not be able to get tickets to the game, to still watch the game in a half-descent atmosphere

Well I think we can all agree on one thing; that downtown will explode with business once 16,000 people are coming down there 45 nights every winter. We get way more than that even with a bigger building. Don't forget the people who will come downtown just to go see the game at a bar with some friends. That's what "buzz" is, and once you have it you will know how great it is. When the Wild were in the playoffs if you wanted to drive around downtown you had to just forget about it. People were coming out of the woodwork just to be around the energy, let alone the people in the X. So yeah, that will be a huge business boom. And what's unique about Winnipeg is that the "Jets Fever" never really left. The Jets Jersey is still one of the highest sold Jerseys in the NHL, that's a remarkable testament to what you have going up there. It will explode.

I don't think that many bars will open up after 5 years.
This is a new age of entertainment. Those who can afford to see a Jets game will most likely have kids and the bar could be out of the question. The others will probably stay close to the MTS Centre so I say less than 10.

Pitbull that's ridiculous.
I think around 25 new bars, restaurants, and "shops" will open up downtown within 5 years of the Jets returning.
Minor league sports (i.e. Moose, Goldeyes) are for kids and families.
MAJOR league sports (i.e. NFL, NHL, NBA) are for the die-hard sports fan. People in their late teens - 50's. People who'll go to the game w/ their buddies and co-workers.
You won't see many brats at NHL games at the MTS Centre! Thank God.
The "NHL crowds" are the type of people who'll go for a beer before and/or after the game.
The "Moose crowds" are the type of people the leave with 10:00 left in the 3rd period to get their screaming brats in bed. Gotta be up for school early tomorrow morning.
Your lovely wife is expecting I hear? Congratulations. Looks like you'll need a babysitter when you check out Jet games. At least until he/she is old enough to accompany you.

I don't know what Winnipeg's demographics are like, but if you have ANY size of like late 20's to mid 30's of men and women they will be all over downtown. Isn't Winnipeg a college town? Maybe if you don't see any around now it's because they don't have a reason to gather up there.

downtown isnt the safest place in winnipeg right now. but im sure bars and restaurants will open after we get a team, and that should make visits to downtown more enjoyable.

The poll isn't JUST bars! It's restuarants, lounges, shops, team stores, etc!
