3,000 fans per game @ $10-12 per ticket is the break even point for WHL teams with an operating budget of $ 1.1 million.
Winnipeg IS the ideal market for a major junior franchise, and i'm surprised that there were over 500 fans at the games, considering the inflated ticket prices that were charged, no advertising, and mid week.... and compare the same to the Moose. at least place them on equal footing before comparing.
the AHL players are better skilled, that isn't in doubt. But then neither is the fact the WHL players' effort is superior.

Hey I was wondering.. does the inflated prices go to Brandon or True North. Because the most expensive ticket at the Keystone Centre is $14. I'm sure if that were the same at MTSC they would have sold more for sure. Can someone answer me please?

Ya ya, we all know how you feel about it. Somebody asked a question, I answered it. The Wheat Kings brass are the ones who chose to have weekday games here. You didnt like the answer and you change the subject by turning another thread into a WHL vs AHL discussion. Fact is that not many people bought tickets to see Brandon play. Attendance numbers clearly show what Winnipeg hockey fans would rather see. Im a Wheaties fan too, so im not saying that having 3,000-3,500 people show up is good. Ive been going to the games, and I will be at the playoff games as well and I would rather see the place sold out. Without a big name like Tootoo it looks like it wont happen this year. Why do you anti-WHL fans keep misrepresenting the numbers. First you say 3,700. Then it subtracts to 3500. Now it's 3000-3500. By the time this thread is done people like AHL Moose will be saying "The Wheaties only drew 1000 people to the game!!"

WHL is better than the AHL... A WHL team would be more cared about in Winnipeg than the Moose. I have absolutely no doubts of that. No callups... rivalries... most players would be from Manitoba..... roadtrips to Brandon!!.... players that want to WIN..... players that care about the city they're playing in... cheaper tickets... great hockey. I could go on and on... a Winnipeg WHL team at the MTS Centre... the Moose' future in Winnipeg is bleak at best I don't know of anyone who favors the AHL over Junior (WHL) hockey in the 18-35 demographic. Mostly families with children favor the Moose, since it is a Mickey mouse operation.

I guess that Fehr, Stone, Konsorada and Monych aren't big enough for you? Moose fans are dense. Actually I follow the WHL pretty closely. Ive been to all of the games here so far and Ive been twice to Brandon to see them play this season alone so you cant say I'm anti-WHL. I know the players on the team, but what I was saying is that the average hockey fan in Winnipeg can't name one player on the Wheaties roster. A half empty building shows that not as many people here care about them as you think.

I agree to a point. Not as many WPGers would follow Brandon because it's 2hrs away and many can't see them live. I still think if we had our OWN team the attendences would be higher. Also, if tickets weren't $25 in large portions of the arena, more tickets would have sold. That's my 2 cents.

to be fair we're hard pressed to find winnipeggers who can name a moose player

All in all, I think the Wheat Kings are still going to be happy with how things turned out. They still got more people out than they would have gotten in Brandon, and they probably made an average of at least $5 extra per ticket with the price increase. They also said that they wanted the players to get familiar with the new arena for when they came back during the playoffs so they will have an advantage over whoever they are playing.

Gotta love it when you've got a top line as dominating as Brandon does.
Leading the league in goals, assists and points.

Was at the game. It was amazing. 5700 in attendance, on a rain check night. It was a madhouse. www.whl.ca/stats/game-summary.php?game_id=1000739 That's the gamesheet, check the penalties. Insane! We of course were right behind the Saskatoon goalie, I think some of best tonight were: "Hey Monette (Blades Goalie), you parents must be proud!" "Hey Monette, will you be my breakfast date? You earned it more than I did!" We have a thing that if the Wheaties score 7 or more goals in a game, EVERYONE get free breakfast at Smitty's. That's right, free. Brandon rules. lol j/k And one of my all time favorite chants for minor hockey: "START THE BUS, START THE BUS!" I love being an @$$. S'toon pulled Cyr after he let in two goals in the first period, and then aparrently strapped up a Mr. Sieve they found in the back of the rink somewhere for the last two periods of the game. They peppered the poor bugger. J. /must be coming up on a 100 posts someday soon.

Oh and for the record: Saskatoon has a player named Wacey Rabbit on thier team.
He was a regular in the parade to the penalty box tonight and every time he was announced on the PA, I just about lost it.
The dude must be related to a Fudd somewhere in the past. lol

The 18:42 mark of the third period looks like a doozy.

5700 fans on a Wednesday night game? Not too shabby. I can't wait until the playoffs. I hope they play Red Deer or Calgary (pref Calgary since I don't want to be lynched for cheering the Wheaties in Red Deer ).
