You all must understand why a new Winnipeg NHL team will have to squeeze every dollar it can from fans...
When the NHL lockout is over I can foresee Mark Chipman saying something like "Based on what salaries would be for a Winnipeg team, we just wouldn't be able to be profitable based on 15,000 tickets sold for every game while giving fans affordable ticket prices".
Since I'm anti-Chipman (for many valid reasons), I assume he's already got his big "speech" planned for why we will not be able to successfully house a team in Winnipeg again.
In my opinion, everyone (esp. the general public and exec's at True North) must be made aware of the vast number of revenue streams that can come from an NHL team in the 21st century.
You see, 15,015 tickets and 50 suites is just the beginning. Granted, it is where the "bulk" of the profits come from, but in many ways it's just the tip of the iceberg.
And ambitious owners of a new Winnipeg NHL team MUST have the vision to make the "rest of the iceberg" a reality...
Just to refresh your memory:
- Pay-per-view games on MTS TV
- Pay-per-view games at SilverCity Polo Park/St. Vital
- Pay-per-view games via webcast on the official Jets site
- Pay-per-view games at the IMAX theatre
- A "Classic Jets" Pay-per-view channel on MTS T.V. that shows old Jet games from 1972-1996
- A "Jets Booster Club", available to anyone on the planet (avail. for a small fee- the details of which were posted in a previous rant before the 'reboot')
- A "classic Jets" webcast feature avail. on their new website
I know I'm missing some, but you get the idea. You can SEE where I'm going with this... a new Winnipeg NHL team is a... well let's face it- it's basically free money for the people involved- IF run and marketed properly by ambitious owners with VISION.
Everyone benefits. Everyone wins.
