Ok... this is hard... but I'll admit it....
I was wrong about the Bombers. Ok? Sue me.
BUT.. come on... let's be frank here. How many of you Bomber fans really thought they'd make this far? Seriously. I don't think many of you did. Sure- of course you wanted them too, but did you truly believe it?
Anyways, I've learned that in the CFL, it's more about luck than skill.
The Bombers have had some very talented teams in the past 45 years, yes, no? Probably the best team in the entire CFL for many of those 45 years. And how many Grey Cups? 3.
THREE in 45 years!
And take this year- it's a fine example. In the 2nd half of the season, how many times have the Blue looked like Grey Cup contendors? And did they really look spectacular in their 2 playoff games? Did they totally dominate and overwhelm Montreal and Toronto. No, no, and no.
I think It's really about how lucky a CFL team is. And since the Jets and Goldeyes have often had bad luck in the playoffs, it's no surprise the Bombers have had it too. I think Winnipeg is just an unlucky city in general, based on my experiences, but that's another rant for another day.
Kind of ironic really. I had become so frustrated with the Bombers in the past year and their pathetic Grey Cup drought, this was the first year I actually sorta wanted them to lose! ("Community ownership" SUCKS! Bring on Asper!) And now here they are, in the Grey Cup, with a good shot at beating Sask. (I still can't BELIEVE it's Wpg-Sask in the Grey Cup! Unreal!)
I've never really been a die-hard fan of the Bombers (to me, football always came long after hockey and baseball)... and I've LOVED *not* being a die-hard fan of the Bombers because they seem to break Winnipeg's heart and let us down year after year after.... well, you get the picture.
I still go to at least a game a year however, and I'll try and attend maybe 3 or 4 games a year at Asper's new stadium.
I'm a die-hard Jets fan, Goldeyes fan, Minnesota Wild fan, Team Canada fan, and I'll definitely be a hard-core die hard fan of Winnipeg's new NHL team, as many of you already know.
But nevertheless, the Bombers a true WINNIPEG team, and I admit I am jumping on the bandwagon. I don't care how it looks in the eyes of others. I'll be watching the game on Sunday with a beer in my hand and cheering on the Blue, so I doubt any Bomber fan can be ticked off with me.
Yes, I am a proud bandwagon jumper for the Blue Bombers. I didn't think they'd make this far, and I don't think many of you did either. I was just vocal about it...
