Can anyone say "white elephant". I second that. I like the Asper stadium better, although I'm not sure I want to turn over control of the team to his company.

Cause central has traffic congestion and the perimeter would also allow residents from all over Winnnipeg to have easy access... not to mention the much better parking that would be available at the RREx site. Also, other events would be able to utilize the stadium at the RREx site. Leaving the Ex grounds would be a nightmare. There's only one road out on to the highway. I'm not sure if you've been out around there, but if you have you probably know what I am talking about. That could all be fixed with some road construction, though. As for location, I live in the middle of the city pretty much, and that's farther than I'd like to go for a football game, I can only imagine how the people east of the Red River would feel about going clean across the city (moreso than now). A central location also makes it much easier to bus to a game. The park and ride system they have in place right now would work for the RREx grounds, but having taken those buses, I'd rather not spend the extra 20 minutes pressed up against four or five other sweaty drunk dudes. The way I see it, no matter where they build the stadium, there will be traffic problems. Our city's streets just weren't designed intelligently. Personally, if I had my way, they'd rip down a few square blocks of downtown that's barely being used and build the stadium there with planned entrance and exit strategies for traffic. That's far to big of an undertaking in this town, though

i just hope they do something. whether it be expand the old stadium and re-do it or build a stadium.
i just hope the parties involved have learned from the mistakes made with the jets and waiting till its too late.
do it now i say. winnipeg needs to stick its neck out and be noticed. by doing that it will only improve the chances of getting an nhl team again.

I could go for tearing down some crappy old apartments and give each resident a one-way bus ticket to Calgary...get rid of the scum in the downtown and it would be more enticing for me.

I dont care what anyone says, with the current set up, downtown can't be revitalized to the degree it needs to be. Some serious infrastructure work needs to into redesigning the entire thing.

What a joke Canad's proposal is. It's totally self-serving and will never happen. They submitted it after the fact so they could weight public opinion on Asper's and throw a few bones to the public (like keeping the team public and making it a dome). That proposal is for the benefit of no one but the Ledehouskies.
