Web Posted | Nov 25 2004 01:35 PM CST McNally Robinson to open NYC store WINNIPEG - A flourishing family-owned bookstore chain based in Winnipeg is poised to open its latest store in New York City. McNally Robinson Booksellers, which is co-owned and operated by Winnipeg residents Paul and Holly McNally, will open its latest outlet in Manhattan's SoHo neighbourhood on Dec. 1. This will mark the company's fifth store in a slowly expanding chain. McNally Robinson currently boasts stores in Calgary and Saskatoon in addition to two in Winnipeg. The new store, located at 50 Prince St. in lower Manhattan, will be owned and operated by Sarah McNally, the 29-year-old daughter of the chain's co-owners. Holly McNally said her husband has been in New York City for the past month helping set up what is sure to be a sprawling store. McNally Robinson opened in Winnipeg 23 years ago and has managed to survive – and even thrive – amid competition from larger chains such as Chapters and Indigo. While their stores are similar in size and scope to the larger national chains, they have come to be known for their book-related events and their knowledgeable staff. The Canadian Booksellers Association has named the chain Bookseller of the Year four times over the last decade. winnipeg.cbc.ca/regionalnews/caches/mb_mcnally20041125.html
