On the Carolina Hurricanes website, their slogan for the 05-06 season is 'Here to Play, Here to Stay'. The second half of that slogan would seem to indicate doubt, even within Raleigh itself, about the long term viability of the franchise in its current location. Otherwise, why would they even have such a slogan? Can you imagine if the New York Rangers or Leafs, etc. had a slogan like that? There would be much confusion.
Another interesting tidbit I was not aware of - the arena in Raleigh is the RBC Centre. RBC stands for Royal Bank of Canada!! Is the Royal Bank a bunch of traitors? Why would they support hockey in such a location?

I've got a better slogan for the 'canes:
See us now, before Karmanos packs up his bags and moves the franchise to Texas!

What's even worse than the slogan. Read the article.... They are relying on MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL to sell hockey in Carolina..... SAD. The article also mentions that this was a sold out crowd. It (the article) implies it was sold out because of the Hurricane festivities.....
RALEIGH, NC β Matt West, Vice President of Business Operations for the Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team will partner with the Durham Bulls on an NHL re-launch event this Friday at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
"As hockey prepares for its return to the ice, the Hurricanes wanted to take an opportunity to thank our loyal fans for their support," said West. "Many fans in the Triangle stood by our team during the work stoppage and deserve our appreciation. We are thankful to have a partner like the Bulls to help host this event."
Hurricanes players and coaches will meet and greet fans at Hurricanes ticket kiosks inside the ballpark from 6 p.m. until 6:40 p.m. before Hurricanes players throw out the gameβs first pitch. The first 2,000 fans to enter the ballpark will receive a Hurricanes t-shirt and all fans exiting after the game will receive a 2005-06 schedule poster. During the game, Bulls players will wear customized Bulls/Canes jerseys and special in-game promotions will focus on hockey. Hurricanes ticket-sales staff will be on hand to discuss ticket options with fans.
Hurricanes season-ticket holders were first invited to the re-launch festivities in late July and have had the opportunity to receive complimentary tickets to the game from the Hurricanes. Activities for all fans will begin at 5 p.m. on Blackwell St. outside of the DBAP, including a slap-shot booth, other inflatable rides and visits from Stormy and the Blue Cross/Blue Shield of North Carolina Storm Squad. Gates will open at 6 p.m. for fans to enter the ballpark where they can enjoy additional rides, meet with Hurricanes players and coaches and enjoy a fireworks display following the game.
Prior to the events on Blackwell St., Carolina Hurricanes owner Peter Karmanos, Jr. and Capitol Broadcasting/Durham Bulls owner Jim Goodmon will host an invitation-only Welcome Back reception for executives from the Hurricanes corporate family β suite holders, corporate partners and premier season-ticket holders.

I phoned to order some Hurricane tickets yesterday for their game Jan14th against Atlanta. They took all my info, gave me my confirmation number, etc.. Then to be sure, I asked what time the game started; and the girl asked me, "what time can you be here?"

Guys, i hate to be a jerk, and like put a damper on things.... But i have a funny feeling that the "Here to stay" part is more refering to "we won't take another season off for a labour dispute" than a "We won't move to Winnipeg."
But, i think Joelzillas Slogan is pretty sweet!!!

The Canes attendance is getting better and better. Even if they relocate it will be to like Houston or Portland or something.

The only good thing about the Hurricanes is their radio guy Chuck Kaiton- Hartford should never have lost that team to freaking North Carolina. Hockey in NC is like having NASCAR in Connecticut, It just isnt right!

11,000 - 12,000 "announced" in Carolina
=
5,000 or 6,000 who actually paid FULL PRICE for their ticket and went to the game and watched the whole game.
Granted there may be 2,000 or 3,000 who got free tickets, or heavily discounted tickets.
I'm so sick of repeating this... but some of you still don't "get it".
