How many of those 4.5 million are die-hard hockey fans? Probably quite a few. In the WHA days, Houston was always in the top 5, in terms of attendance, even beating the Winnipeg Jets in a couple of seasons( I think). Houston has a storied Hockey history, even moreso than the sucessful Dallas Stars....

We go back and forth on this one alot but I keep coming to the same conclussion.
I can't see the league moving/adding yet another team in the deep Southern USofA any time soon. I'll admit I know very little about Houston's supposed "Great" hockey history when it comes to minor league teams of old but like I've said, I just dont see it happening any time soon. I think the NHL had its chance to add teams in southern markets and now that type of expansion/relocation practice should/must be put on hold for a while. IMO there are about 2-3 U.S. (Hartford, Portland, Milwaukee) and I'd say 2-3 Canadian markets (Winnipeg, Quebec City, Hamilton) that deserve some consideration before anymore southern U.S. cities are mentioned.

Hartford should get it's team back, but I can't see it happening without a new arena...
