Does anyone know which NHL teams are currently FOR SALE?
I know several are... and Scott Taylor often lists which ones in the Free Press, but does anyone know who they are?
Also, once a new CBA is negotiated where salaries are reduced (you know it's just a matter of time), do you think all these teams will still want to sell?

I am not sure which ones are for sale, but i know alot of teams are not wearing a forsale sign, but if an offer was made the owner would jump all over the opprtunity.

Well.. 20 NHL teams lose money every year.
Even with a new CBA that reduces salaries, I'd estimate that at least 10 would still lose money. One of those teams will come to Winnipeg and MAKE money.
It's almost... *too* simple....

Teams confirmed to be FOR SALE as of right now:
The Mighty Ducks of Anahiem. Moreso now that Eisner is no longer with Disney.
New Jersey Devils. A moot point since they have a new arena coming but for sale nonetheless.
New York Islanders
Pittsburgh Penguins. In recievership which means anyone can have them if they just put the money down.
Buffalo Sabres. One can almost take this club for free as they are in an even worse situation with no owner at all and can be forclosed if no attempt to generate any income happens in the next fiscal year.
Florida Panthers
The Hurricanes aren't for sale as far as I know but Carmanos is very unhappy, (gee, that doesn't happen with him that often...) and wants to move the team again. I wouldn't take him because he is poison everywhere he has been. On the other hand, Leopold in Nashville has done a wonderful job of building the Preds up and I would welcome him to the city with open arms as he has shown that he wants to move the Preds but remain owner.

"we dont want the penguins or the islanders. "
Winnipeg is in no mood to pick and choose which teams we want here.
It's very likely if Winnipeg ever DID get the NHL back here (yeah, right,) we'll get some bottom-of-the-barrel team with players no one's ever heard of.

I'm not going to blindly follow a return until I see some actual proof. Words have been thrown around that city hall is in contact, and I don't believe that either.
Like I said. I'm all for another NHL team here in Winnipeg. But that may never happen. I don't want to get my hopes up for something that may never come.
Until I wake up one morning and hear word that someone's moving here...

You must lead quite a depressing life then.
What did you do when you were a kid and wanted Santa to bring you an Optimus Prime action figure more than anything else in the world? Did you say to yourself "Well, it probably won't happen so I shouldn't get my hopes up" OR did you get really excited and then throw the temper tantrum of your life when you found out you got some crappy "Go-Bots" figures and had to be sent to your room for the rest of the day?
I think I've proved my point! . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
lol- I haven't proved anything, that's what makes this post so funny!

....You're comparing a toy to a hockey team?
I'd say as a kid, getting a 20 dollar toy is pretty damn possible. But getting a hockey team that costs millions of dollars would be a little harder to come by...

I'm confused to why you care enough to post then cjrs...
THE WHOLE POINT IS HOPE
not doubting, but then jumping on the bandwagon if it happens.
that's exactly the kind of attitude that takes away from the campaign...
there are many teams that never were a better choice then Winnipeg, Bettman wanted an NFL qualilty T.V contract so he went south...oops.... More Canadians watched the Stanley Cup Finals this year and there are 10 times more Americans.
BTW, it's not that hard to get what Blackthorne is saying..... If you really want something you have to let it be known, you need to ask for it... constantly (like a kid on christmas pesters his parents for one special toy). IT"S NOT GOING TO JUST FALL ON YOUR LAP.
I'm not trying to be a jerk, but it seems hypocritical that you are posting at a site for the RETURN OF THE JETS... if like you said you don't have hope for it and you really don't care until the day a team comes.

To respond to the ignorant moosehockey.com person above, to quote Wayne Gretzky:
"You miss 100% of the shots you don't take!"
Same is true here, if we don't take a shot at fighting to bring the NHL back, it will NEVER arrive guaranteed. There are no guarantees here but I would rather take my best shot at the big show and fail and sit at home and grumble about what might have been had I not bitched and complained about the idea of doing it 20 years ago...

I'd just like to say right off the bat that i'm definately not anti-RoTJ. I've wanted the Jets back ever since the day after I saw them lose for one final time to the red wings. With that in mind, maybe I can restate a couple things I said earlier. I'm not saying we'll NEVER get a team back here. I'm saying it's not going to come back anytime soon. I don't expect to see the NHL here for at least another two years. I'm looking at everything from a negative point of view, so just in case it doesn't happen, I won't be dissapointed. That and if you get a little too excited, and then it turns out they won't be here for five years, you'll be more dissapointed then happy. My belief at first was that it would never happen. That it wasn't possible. But these past few days...Jets have been filling the Sun/Free Press. Jets have been filling anything to do with Hockey. And now when someone mentions the NHL, I often see a mention of our beloved city - and new arena. Since the old Arena is shutting down for one final time, the Jets have been on pretty much every sports program, showcasing our new arena as well as the team we once had. Good way to get the building out that we could house the NHL again...the only thing that bugs me is that there's nowhere to park. Then again, maybe I should stop focusing on the negative for once...

do they really got no owner. last time i heard any news on them they had just gotten a new owner around the same time ottawa did. what happened to change their situation to having no owner at all? i'd rather see that team move to hamilton but i'd surely take them here in winnipeg.

You WILL get another team in Winnipeg! Sooner or later it will happen. It's an aberration not to have a team in Winnipeg, there are so many fans in this city.
I still remember the last Jets game with the ''thank you Manitoba" on the ice. Even though I never was a Jets fan, I felt this was very wrong. I was watching it on TV from Montreal and I felt real sad. I can only imagine how people in the 'Peg felt.

"You miss 100% of the shots you dont take" Well said, Gretz.
I gotta say, there is NOTHING wrong with having a little hope. I know i sure Hope for alot of things, and from time to time you don't get them. However, I think it is safe to call someone who refuses to have a little hope as a pessimist. it is VERY possible for this city to retain a hockey team... It doesn't tkae some dude with 100 Million dollars to get it here... It will take a fair CBA, someone with alot of equity or money, and/or an investors group. We already have the arena, we are in the process of proving how intense the fan support really is.
Bettman is incharge of a dying league. If your president of a company on the verge of going under, sometimes you gotta do things you dont wanna do too keep them afloat. Everybody and there grandmother knows that Bettman is not exactley a fan of the idea of an NHL team in Winnipeg, but he has teams going broke faster than Ruban Studdard eats cupcakes. His vision of NHL in the deep south has and still is failing worse than a Naysayer in math class.
The all mighty dollar will prevail and Bettman will realize money can be made in Winnipeg...

Local investors must realize this too... I can't name names (because I personally don't know), but I have been told by people associated with the big wigs in town, that they are in fact carefully watching, crunching numbers and preparing for what we all hope and believe will be a CBA that makes perfect sense for Cananda, which will make perfect sense to WINNIPEG.
