Any era of Jets history will do here. What songs make you think of the Jets in a positive and/or negative light when listening to them? Aside from the usual suspects, (Get Ready for This, Jump, etc.) Here's a few of mine, enjoy!
- Jet Airliner by Steve Miller: The Jet theme song that wasn't. I always think of the old 70's Jets when I hear that song. (Especially the New England reference that also makes me think of the Whalers.)
- Feels Good Even Missing You by Burton Cummings: The Jets are gone but they couldn't take those great memories away from me. That song has that same kind of feeling to me.
- Stagefright by The Band: It never failed in the Mike Smith era, (and later in the Ferguson era.) We would oversell the arena, (beyond the "official" attendance figure,) and the Jets would lose. I think it was a case of stagefright on the part of the players, not used to success. (Calgary went through this in the playoffs last year in the first 2 rounds and New Jersey went through this in the 1994 and 1995 playoffs.) Good song, painful memories.
- Nana Goodbye by the Nylons: Okay, this is a reminder of the days when the Bombers were good too, (they still play it at the Stadium whenever the Blue win,) but this one brings back memories of going to a Bomber game in the afternoon, having a quick bite to eat, changing my jersey and heading to the Jet game.

"Big Yellow Taxi" by Joni Mitchell (and later Counting Crows):
"Don't it always seem to go, that you don't know what you've got till its gone. They paved paradise and put up a parking lot"
They didn't exactly pave the old barn after the Jets left, but they may as well have as far as I'm concerned. That place was paradise to me in the Jets days.

Highway to the Dangerzone by Kenny Loggins. They would play that when the Jets came out during their first or second last season. Great tune, even better memories of my team losing.

"Jump" by Van Halen, since every Jets goal was accompanied by this song.
"Everybody Have Fun Tonight" by Wang Chung. A remake of this song titled "Everybody Wear White Tonight" insipred the Jets through their last playoff series win against Calgary in 87'.
Paul McCartney has a song, where the main chorous shouts out "Jets!". Not too sure the name of the song, but its a good one.
"Hill Street Blues" theme. When I was a young boy, my dad and I would goto a couple of Jets games per year. It wasan exciting time, and this is the first song I heard during warm-up, and for some odd reason, it still reminds me of the Jets.

"Bennie and the Jets" by Elton John. Does anyone remember when Benny used to throw the football into the crowd and try and get fans to throw it back into the giant Zoodles can while this song was playing? Or am I crazy? LOL

Joel,
You are refering to JET by McCartney and Wings. (On the first side on Band On The Run.) Talk about a Jets anthem that wasn't. I would even use that song for the Jets today if they were still here.

LOL They played that song while the "Winnipeg Jets: 1972-1995" banner was being raised at the Jets' Funeral/Steen's number retirement ceremony and I broke down and cried out of nowhere. (I went from feeling no emotion at all to losing it completely about a minute into the song.)

I fondly remember hearing AC/DC's "Thunderstruck" played in the background at both Winnipeg Arena and also at the Metropolitan Sports Center in Bloomington, Minnesota (home of the defunct North Stars) when I saw the games on television. The Minnesota Wild early on had also adopted the song along with Steppenwolf's "Born To Be Wild". Most recently, I heard "Thunderstruck" regularly at America West Arena for Coyotes games along with Guns 'N Roses' "Welcome to the Jungle".
However, "Jump" reminds of the Winnipeg Jets more than any other song though.

...Get Ready for this by that electronic band.. Oh, you mean by 2Unlimited. Funny, that song was played at last night's 2005 NBA Finals Game 1. It was during the Spurs' player intros.

I remember a game, during warm-up skate the song "Let's Dance" by David Bowie was playing & this old gentleman who sat beside us for 12 years turned to me and said, "Why do they always play this rock & roll music so loud my teeth chatter??" I laughed out loud through the whole zamboni flood. Still think of that guy when I hear Bowie. Funny, all the memories I have of the Jets, so many were just the times in the old barn. The people, the smell, eating nachos for the first time & my dad telling me the jalapeno's were "just like pickles" ha ha.
Boy do I miss that atmosphere.............
