He did put up 40. In 05-05 and 06-07. 31 last year. I'm sure every player would be "willing" to score 40. Heck they'd be willing to score 100. Whether or not they are capable of doing so gets in the way. Teemu's 40 goal seasons are over. Playing in Winnipeg next year I think 30 would be on the high end of his abilities. No doubt he can still play the game and be productive. However is the money he'd demand for 1 season worth it? Would he make the team that much better than it already is. Setting aside all feelings of nostalgia, my answer is probably no. Honestly, I'd rather gamble and use that money to sign a young Zherdev. Zherdev would be cheaper. I won't be complaining if Teemu signs here, I just don't think it's realistic. Maybe someone can make up a Teemumeter. Replace 40 in my post to 30. K. Will do. Taking into account that revised stat, I will disagree that someone is an idiot if they said "We don't need him". I would suggest that they are probably correct. He'd be nice to have, but we don't need him.

I'm not saying we wouldn't like a guy like him in the lineup. I just don't think we'd be having these discussions if Teemu didn't have the Jets history behind him.
Of course, with the relatively thin UFA market this year, there's not a lot of other players to speculate about.
Zherdev, anyone?

I shouldn't have put the word "idiot" in there either. My opinion is that if he is willing to come here, he is over 40, it would be a one-year deal and he definitely has a shot at scoring 30. If the Jets org. believe they have a shot at the playoffs, they should go for him. Any team would love a potential 25-35 goal scorer. He made under 4mil last year. If he signs here for one year at up to 4.5 and we are willing to pay that for one year, lets give it a shot. If we want to take a run at the playoffs, It would help to have him or someone who can help run a PP like him. If we are content with playing hard and have no expectations of playoffs, then we don't need him. To sign him for symbolic/nostalgic reasons, I agree. We don't need him..

Won't argue with you there. Just think to pry him away from the Ducks, we'd have to entice him with a big payday. That is unless the Ducks don't want him back. However, I believe the Ducks want him and will be looking for him back if he decides to play.

Chipman shells out $8 million, Teemu signs for 1 year, fans go nuts..... The ROTJ website is bombarded with congratulatory posts from everywhere and everyone (including stray dogs)....
Teemu scores on his first shot on goal, and the reinvented Jets beat Montreal on national TV in their first regular season game in their first year back in the NHL...
The season grinds on.... Teemu puts the rubber in the net say another 40 times in his last season.
Question is: How do the 40 goals in season one help the Jets in the short term (say 5 years) besides having 40 less goals in year 2 and 8 million less in the bank?
It's not if his signing is going to increase attendance or put more money in the teams coffers, or increase public awareness of the team..... Realistically what contribution, besides the goals in the 2011 2012 season and being able to have an old Jet and new Jet Selanne jersey, would this signing provide?

Could be a role model and leader for this young team.
Not saying this signing is realistic, but it definitely could not hurt...

Teemu will play in Anaheim, if he plays again. Save your memories and congratulations for him when his Ducks come to town.

Teemu will NOT be playing here. Take it to the bank. Well Teemu is out for sure then. What about Zheredev, any chance they take a look at him?

Teemu is a Duck. He will finish his career as a Duck. I say when he steps on the ice here (that is if he even plays this year) we give him a standing "O" and chant "TEEMU! TEEMU! TEEMU! Just to let him know that we haven't forgotten what he used to mean to us. (yes past tense) Ladd, Buff and company are our boys now. This IS our Winnipeg Jets!
PS: Bye all! Its been a hoot spending time reading all your posts. All the best and GO JETS GO!!

On one hand, he is pure talent, and will likely take a spot on the first or second line, and could easily pot 25-30 if he clicks with his linemates. On the other hand, he might not exemplify the type of player that Zinger and Chevy have in mind for this team. I think they should take a flyer on him, maybe 1 year, 1.8 mil. After all, he did say he wants to come here. I don't see that happening an awful lot.

It will likely be up to the coach who knows Zherdev well enough. If he thinks the kid is coachable and looking for a chance to turn the corner, then go for it. We can afford it so it's not really a big gamble. Either he sucks or has a poor attitude and you ditch him in a year or two. Or he turns the corner and is a strong contributor.
We seem to have some great character guys so I wouldnt worry too much about one guy not fitting in. He'll be made to fit in or he'll be riding the pine in St Johns.

nooo to zheredev
Teemu was by far the best player on the ducks last year and by far the best player in the Playoff series they lot to Nashville
He would be a great asset on any team and would be a strong fit for a team in need of offense while providing defensive responsability.

Teemu will NOT be playing here. Take it to the bank. The HOTTEST selling jersey would overflow the TNSE and NHL bank accounts for sure. I have a gut feeling Teemu will announce his retirement sometime in Sept.
