Well in Hamilton yesterday, the city dismantled the entire board of directors for HECFI which run Hamilton Place, The Convention Centre and Copps Collisium. Copps Collisium was publically run for 26 years. All NHL teams arenas are operated by private groups. They will be looking for a private group to run all the facilities. Anyone thinks that Darryl Katz will bring his proposed plan with AEG? this is a good start. www.thespec.com/news/local/article/554257--council-dissolves-hecfi-board

After Winnipeg's success, I think they finally have a roadmap in which to pursue getting an NHL team! Wish them the best and hope the day we see 9 teams in Canada becomes a reality!

I respectfully disagree with the notion of bringing a second team to southern Ontario. That region already has Buffalo Sabres and Toronto Maple Leafs, and such a team could arguably become the New York Islanders of Canada (New York City has three hockey teams and New York Islanders are not successful with regard to attendance).

What exactly is Darryl Katz's angle?
How can he own a team in Edmonton but pursue a team for Hamilton at the same time?

I don't think proximity should come into play when they're is a border in between the two cities / area. Kinda lame that Buffalo needs Canadians to cross the border in order to survive. The Junior tournament proved just how many Canadians cross. I think it would thrive in Hamilton.

Wrong, less than 5% of the Sabres' season ticket base is Canadian.

Wrong, less than 5% of the Sabres' season ticket base is Canadian. yea obviously.. , it would be shocking to hear Canadians would make the trip 42+ times. Maybe closer to 10 times. But I'm sure 90% of the Canadians at the World Juniors weren't making they're first trip to a hockey game in Buffalo.

I'm just going to make a guess and say that 1/2 of their walkup crowd is Canadian, which is about 1500 people.
