ajor downtown development CJOB's Richard Cloutier reporting 6/28/2011
CentreVenture announced the details today of a major real estate development project in the heart of the sports hospitality entertainment district.
Located on Portage Avenue this project will be jointly developed by Longboat Development Corporation and Group German Hospitality. The building, covering 200-thousand square feet over 20 stories will house the province's first ALT hotel and the headquarters of Stantec's Winnipeg office, a Canadian-based professional consulting firm.
This is the first private investment in several decades in this part of the city and will significantly contribute to its revitalization. Stantec will provide full architectural and engineering services to design the mix-used tower.
As an anchor tenant, Stantec will bring over 250 employees to the building when it opens in 2013.
The project includes restoration and reuse of the Mitchell-Copp building's historic facade.
It will form an important part of the new development's character and serve as the main entrance to the office.
The ALT hotel will occupy the top 12 floors of the 20 storey tower. There will be retail and restaurant space on the main floor.
****They refer to Longboat as "Chipman Family" though Jeff Chipman is the CEO. Is Mark involved as an owner also??

Supposedly there is construction going on at the Masonic Temple across the street from the ALT hotel block.
I think that place would be a great location for a restaurant.

They should have a couple of Jets theme rooms at the hotel, statue of Bobby Hull in the room , major memorbillia all over the place. guest book, The room would be booked for a century would be my guess! Cheers! Old and new. Bed could be a Go Jets Go pit of a fighter jet expanded and widened of course for comfort. Everything from the lamps to the phones with a hefty damage deposit to prevent theft of course!
