I keep hearing rumors that Sidney Crosby's concussions are a lot more serious than the Penguins medical staff are letting on. I've heard quite a few rumors that he may announce his retirement due to post concussion syndrome.
This would be a big blow to the NHL, as Crosby was their most marketable star.

Considering how hard the hit/hits were, it' pretty clear he sustains more damage then the average guy so even if he returns, this will vey likely shorten his career.

Quite apart from any debate on hockey "head shots" or violence.... What a tragedy if his career ends up being shortened!

i wouldnt be surprised if he does retire. hes been gone a long time for a player his age. so that concussion must have been/is extremly severe. we shall see, i hope he doesnt, but you have to watch out for number1. if he does retire, the NHL will be to blame here. bring back the enforcers and this Go Jets Go stops real fast.

Hopeully he recovers to the level of Bergeron. He suffered a brtal concussion at an even younger age than Crosby and has been able to make a full recovery, so it's possible.

Yeah, but that's exactly it. When you're younger your brain is better able to repair damage (much like the rest of your body). An adult injured brain is still able to 're-route' or adapt, but it takes longer, and is not always as successful.

That hit on the majority of the league would of seen the player return prior to playoffs. Crosby missed half the season plus playoffs.

QFT You think that hit would have have happened to Gretzky? Or when George Laraque was playing for the Penguins? Not a chance. People knew, if you Go Jets Go with Gretzky, you were gonna get Go Jets Go up, and rightfully so. If they had a dominate enforcer on their team, that Go Jets Go wouldn't have happened either... well, likely not. The guy who hit Crosby would have gotten hit and not gotten up.

Sids lengthy absence is probably him not wanting to come back early and make the mistake that has forced some people into early retirement. Does the name Mark Savard ring s bell?
Crosby was just cleared to return to off ice workouts, and I hope he takes it slow even if it means cutting into next season. But he will be back!

Lindros and LaFontaine also came back prematurely. I'm not a Pens fan, but I'm a fan of the game. And it would be a shame to see a talent like Crosby have his career cut short. I believe he's just taking the slow road back, as well, to be cautious.

I think that is a bogus argument. Look at Horton, Lucic was on the ice was he not when that hit happened. Nothing happened. You can put all the goons on the ice, it still won't take away the fact that there are players out there who will go out of their way to injure the other team's best players, that is just a sad fact of the game of hockey today. Steckle's not the first. Ottawa got their Stanley Cup appearance only because Chris Neil made a concerted effort to injure Chris Drury, ruined his career. How many guys has Cooke injured? I think the main problem is equipment, with leather shoulder pads, and elbow pads, you didn't see so many concussions, because the impact wasn't so severe. I don't want more goons in the game, who wants to watch a player who can't skate, or handle a pass, or stickhandle on the ice. Fighting should not be the main attraction of the game of hockey, if a fight occurs it should be because the intensity level of the game has reached its boiling point. I think Crosby will come back, he will be grilled in Pittsburgh if he doesn't because Ben Rothlisberger got his head wrung, and didn't miss a beat. The main thing to watch for is the way he is coddled by Mario, will he still have the fire?

And Claude Julien actually has a policy that he's made very clear to his players that they are NOT to fight if one of their players is actually down and injured. He says it's more important that the refs, linesmen and trainers concentrate on getting the player medical attention then to have a scrap or retaliation. That's why Lucic didn't go after Rome, and it's why no one retaliated when Savard was hit.

Agreed, Go Jets Go the instigator rule! The league needs the self policing of players during the games. You wouldn't have guys like Cooke running around if Brashear or Laraque were on the other bench waiting for his next shift!
