can't remember his name but after Jets moved he left a few years later to Toronto I think. Tried to become the new Leafs ACC announcer but didn't get it.
I like him to do the games. Sorry for the guy we have for the Moose but his voice doesn't come close.

Gonna go out on a limb and say whoever was the PA announcer for the Moose will be the PA announcer for the new team.

You know, as much as we might like to believe it, we can't just pretend that our team didn't disappear for fifteen years. Kim Camarta has likely moved on with his life. In fact, given that he was the announcer at the Arena for as long as I can remember, it's entirely likely that he has long since retired. You're right that he had a great voice, but Jay Richardson (who I believe does the Moose games now) does a fine job.
I'm entirely convinced that some people (I'm speaking generally here, not necessarily referring to you) won't be happy unless the team is called the Jets, they skate out to Jump (which is, Jets memories aside, a terrible song), they revert to the 8 bit scoreboard display (It's a plane! Or a triangle! Or Dale Hawerchuck's face! They all look the same!), they're encouraged to clap by the big Mickey Mouse gloves with no sense of rhythm, they can't see the ice from their seat, and Burton Cummings sings the national anthem completely off his Go Jets Go drunk, dressed up as Benny while tossing out steam tray hot dogs and month old popcorn. Change isn't always a bad thing, I promise.

awal. the gun shooting hot dogs was a moose thing. That's why people stayed away from moose games.
Yes bring back the lightbright scoreboard. When the NHl left so did all these terrible things people outside Winnipeg would hate. We loved it! It was ours and if you don't understand that then you don't understand why the Jets were important.
Change is good but only wheny ou change from the platform of your identity. You can't just create something from the pure passion of something in the past like the Winnipeg Jets.
We want NHL hockey in Winnipeg back cause of the Jets!

I think the above thread is one of the reasons tnse considered and still may choose to not name the team the jets.
Time to move on - however I do support and hope the name is the jets - beyond that bring on the new stuff!!

I'd say bring back those two left hands that got everyone to clap offbeat during the go jets go chants!

We want NHL hockey in Winnipeg back cause of the Jets! I wasn't referring to the shooting of hot dogs as much as the generally Go Jets Go quality of the WEC dogs (and everything else WEC for that matter), but I digress. The reality is that all of those things would have changed even if the Jets hadn't left. Even if we had somehow managed to build a new arena in 1995, the light bright scoreboard would have been torn down with the Winnipeg Arena. For that matter, sound engineers would have prevented anyone from hanging a piece of plywood the size of a tennis court with the Queen's picture on it from the rafters to mess with the sound for concerts. A decent ownership group would have realized that our "Celebrity Captain" should have been someone other than a washed-up drunken douche whose only interest was in stroking his own ego. There wouldn't have been any excuse for terrible concessions. God willing, people would have moved on from a song that was already over a decade out of date. Time didn't stop because the Jets left. An awful lot has changed in this city since then, and while there are some traditions worth keeping (the White-out, for one), it's about damn time we start some new ones. There's a difference between honouring the past and living in it.

I am pretty nostalgic when it comes to some things, but the announcer I couldn't give two shits about.

Where are the straw men? We've got people pushing for the Queen's picture, Burton Cummings to sing the anthem, "Jump," the lo-fi scoreboard and graphics... I guess you nailed me, I haven't seen anyone yearning for WEC concessions... yet.

Hey awal, while I half agree with your points, enough ragging on Burton, please. He's an international icon, and had a hugely successful career. Unlike many celebrities generated here, he maintains a presence in this town and has been a boon to the community, largely. As for his weight, substance abuse, and ego, well, find me many big name singers of his generation without similar problems. Either way, he's definitely on a short list of suitable guest anthem singers for Winnipeg. That's reality, no matter your personal opinions of the man.
