I hate this shite!
You pay 170 million you get to name it.
If you won't support an NHL team in Winnipeg because it is not named what you want it to be then you are an idiot.
And what happens when you let fans pick a name, well, then you get the Toronto Raptors. Simply because some little Logan in Toronto liked Jurassic Park and a bunch of idiot executives said: "ah shucks, ain't that cute".
Might as well name all your kids Chandler or Phoebe if that's the criteria.
Yes I know we are talking about the Jets name, tradition and all, I like it, I prefer it, but I'm not so full of myself that I'm going to DEMAND it like a three year old in a grocery store throwing a temper tantrum because he wants his mommy to buy him some candy.
/end rant

We're not making any demands, we just want to be heard and understood. If TNSE gives an honest listen to what 70+ % of the fans want, and still choose another name, at least I'll know they listened. However, we've had the "100% won't be the Jets" slammed down our throats, without even the slightest chance it could be. That would of been crushing. Now, it appears on the surface anyway, that it could be the Jet's. I love that the fans were listened too, even if it doesn't work out in our favour.

You pay 170 million you get to name it. It's the fans and the corporate community that will ultimately pay for the team, with the profits they will generate year after year.

For those who won't support the team if its called moose or whatever, why don't you ask Atlanta fans how their story turned out, since they didn't want to support the team because they didn't like how the owners, ASG, ran things... Go ahead. Ask them.

And True North should run their business like any other business, which is working hard to please their customer base, not expecting unconditional support. It's up to them to deliver a quality product that fans and businesses will want to support, and to listen to their fans. True North are smart... I have no doubt they will run their operation this way... they worked hard to deliver a good product with the Moose. As far as the name, I will support the team by buying season tickets no matter what the team is called, as long as there is an effort being made to deliver a quality product for my money, which I have no doubt they will.

They should take the fan's wishes into consideration.

Go ahead. Ask them. Actually, Atlanta fans were alienated by the ownership group to the point where the fans were told to "deal with it" regarding their concerns. So the fans ending up losing the team and the owners lost millions. Not good business sense, IMO.

More of this? It seems like nobody can win. Anyways... I like the idea of the Jets as much as anyone, but the notion that naming it anything but would be an insult to the Winnipeg fan base is a little off... perhaps just a little self centred. I'm suprised that a community that took it as a kick in the teeth when the Jets left doesn't have a desire to kick back and reject any idea of them coming back, but I guess that argument is flawed because it could be extended to the NHL as well. I would have thought that fans would be ready to burn the old jerseys when a new team comes to town.
Regardless, I hope that, if Winnipeg does get a team with a different name, all the old die hards find a way to find closure... maybe they could get together at the airport after the first game against Pheonix and yell Go Jets Go one last time as the Coyotes' plane left town, for old times sake. Supporting a new team completely might not be so bad (unless it's named the Polar Bears, which is just silly).
I also wonder what will happen to this site if a team with a new name does come to Winnipeg. Does it move on and change it's name, or does it remain just as a tribute to the return of the Jets and nothing more?

It may not be an insult to the Winnipeg fan base, but it would be going against the wishes of 2/3 of the hockey fans in Winnipeg. You have to listen to your potential customers to run a successful business.
Just ask any Chicago Blackhawks fan under the Bill Wirtz ownership era. The franchise was barely selling 10,000 seats per game.

If certain people do not support the team because of the name, that is thier choice! No need to call people idiots, childish, ect. I'd prefer the Winnipeg Jets, but if it's not, I'll still support the team. If there are people out there that won't support...oh well, so be it. I don't think they are childish, that's just thier mindset. (I'd hazzard to guess that it's a minority). Let them be heard! No harm being done by voicing thier opinions, just as the staunch "I'll support them even if they are called the Manitoba Buttercups" fans voice thier opinion. Seems some people pointing fingers, are also throwing tantrums.
