Couple Basic points hes touching on:
-you need to put a winning team on the ice, Thrashers did not. -there is a strong fan base in Atlanta -infighting between owners led to demise, bad situation
more: - Bettman does not like Atlanta ownership - Phoenix threw a wrench in everyones plans (I was confused where he was going with that)
more: - college sports in Atlanta treated like pro sports - w/college teams, there is too many choices, losing Thrashers is low on totem pole - To say Atlanta fans wouldnt support Thrashers if the owners made an effort is ignorant, fans would have came - perception is Thrashers didn't try to win

No doubt better ownership and more on-ice success would have made a difference. But I have to agree with sledlen... strong fan base is definately a bit of a stretch. That's the thing. No one argues that winning leads to more excitement which leads to higher ticket sales. No one argues that. But there is still some sort of "bottom limit". When Atlanta literally gives tickets away and has promotions out the ying yang but still has an arena that looks like a ghost town, that is NOT a strong fan base.

- Fla made it to the stanly cup finals has lots money ever since
- Tampa Bay won the stanly cup 5 years ago (correct me if im wrong) just found out last week lost 30 million this year.
- Caralina won the stanly cup 4 years ago (correct me if im wrong) owner now is begging for some one to take over half the team because he is bleeding money.
The minions r out this week i guess!!

I dont get this. What is a good product on the ice even mean? I think if you are competing for a playoff spot that would be a good product. And the thrashers did that and still couldn't draw flies. I guess he means a good product would mean a top three type of team. It's pretty unreasonable to expect a team to be a top team year after year but some say it's a necessity for southern teams to turn a profit. Well those are not good markets and should be removed

No question that a "winning" product is necessary and they did put up with a lot of crap, but there is no guarantee that you will be able to ice a competitive/winning team every year. Let's say they turned it around and made playoffs next few seasons, what happens in 5 years when they slide back out?

There will always be a core of diehard fans everywhere, and then you get the casual fan that jumps on the bandwagon when the team is doing well. Other than Van, Toronto,NYR or Montreal, there is no other team out there who is safe from futility. IMO 11 years...one playoff...no playoff wins...equals demise.

I've always hated the attendance arguement...show me nightly "gate revenues" for every team and that's how to tell which teams are doing well. I would love to see those stats at the bottom of game summaries.

Philadelphia $7.00 beer (7.50 if you want Labbatt's or Canadian)/ Coyotes $1.00 bud lights. That's gotta affect revenue! Lol!

I wonder if the return to Winnipeg will go down in hockey history as the beginning of the end of the sunbelt experiment. With luck, Quebec City gets the Coyotes; and Hamilton acquires a team soon thereafter.
