You should try finding a photography student, they are really reasonable and they want to add to their portfolio. My fiance and I are going that route and paying $300 for the whole day as well as engagement photos.

Have they gone up that much? A high-end guy six years ago was two grand. Wow. This was just before DSLRs caught up to film, too. They had to develop the pictures, rather than photoshop. I found a hobbyist to do my wedding. It was $800 bucks. Plus he gave us everything afterwards. I don't have his card anymore, unfortunately, because I would recommend him without hesitation. I like the idea of a student doing it. Never thought of that. They say to spend on the photographer, but 6 years after the fact, we have four framed photos floating around between our house and each of our parents'. Which is ultimately what you're left with after everyone has seen the album. If you can cut that in half, depending on your honeymoon destination, you could get another week out of it. Just something to chew on. My wife wanted the artsy-fartsy trendy photographers back then. Frugality won out, and in the end, she admitted it was the right thing to do. You can try this guy, Richard: wheretolookphotography.com/ He took some family photos for us a few years back, and I have no complaints. It was a portfolio/personal connections job at the time, so I'm not sure what he'll charge. Good luck and congrats.

I have worked with many photographers, and haven't had anything bad to say about any. They all did a great job, had direction, and were negotiable. Sugar and Soul is awesome, Jeremy Hiebert, Tinholt and Trevor are my faves. www.weddingsinwinnipeg.ca/winnipeg/photographers.php

That is what my hubby said... we got a photographer for 600 and I regret that. I wish we would have spent more... Its crazy no doubt, but weddings are a business as well as a celebration! Therefore HAVE A SOCIAL. Being a wedding planner I can honestly say that I have seen a wedding that paid $8000 for pictures. CRAZY

It is a big day, but he said its not right to spend 20 to 30 thousand, and it doesn't make sense, so even though I didn't like it we compromised on a lot. Our whole wedding was 14,000, including my dress and everything. An average wedding in Manitoba is 24,000. My cousin had a 25,000 wedding, and to be honest I did like mine better. Our food was better, and I think we did a great job decorating. Free words here for those thinking on getting engaged or engaged, if you can do the reception in the country it will make a difference of 800-1500 dollars. Our hall rentals are cheaper. Our caterer was a marvelous price and fantastic food... CJL Catering. Don't be fooled by your corkage fee, cake cutting fee, and per person fee, make sure you ask ahead of time. The Hilton has a wonderful package and in fact they are the only hotel that does. It maybe worth it. Anywho, good luck and remember to follow that budget like a bible, because once you cheat on one thing, it gets out of hand!

DONT FORGET TO NEGOTIATE!!! IF YOU PAY 3000 FOR A CD, YOU CAN PLAN AHEAD OF TIME TO GET PRINTS INCLUDED. MENTION THIS, PHOTOGRAPHERS DON'T WANNA LOOSE TO COMPETITION! IF YOU BOOK THEM A YEAR AHEAD OF TIME, AND MEET UP TO SEE THEIR WORK, SAY YOU WANT SOME PRINTS!!!!

We had CJL at our wedding, but we only spent about $11,000 total, we paid about 500-600 on pictures the pics were nice enough although I haven't looked at them since we got them like 3 years ago. had a videographer too, watched the video a couple times, it was nice becausae a few of my friends borrowed the DVD to prep for their turns as MC or best man. Definately have a social though.
