The real test is, if their fans will still fill up more than 80% of the stadium when the time comes that the Preds begin tanking again!

Milt Stegall is in town and lives in Atlanta. He said the Thrashers will die in Atlanta. Basically the team was popular early and now nobody wants to go watch hockey in a cool hockey rink with sandals on... what a shocker! GB, it is NOT and hockey market - who cares how many people live there. Get over your bad decision (for the NHL - it was the 2nd mistake in Atlanta)!

I saw the game in Nashville yesterday, and I saw the large crowd all wearing yellow, and chanting "Go Preds Go!" Regardless, Nashville is still a bad hockey market.
Ticket prices for season tickets range from $19-$85 (excluding the front row seats.) The Preds don't get much concession revenue since half their arena has all-you-can eat sections. The worst part, there's also an option where you can get unlimited beer for an extra $20.
Don't be fooled by artificial crowds, subsidized through all-you-can-eat and cheap ticket promotions. Winnipergers should know best that it's not how many fans show up to games, it's how much revenue those fans generate that dictates a good hockey market. The Preds will MAYBE break-even this year with a second round appearance. If the Preds miss the playoffs next year, they're at least $10 million in the red again.

This is an interesting story about how the Lightning won't even break even DESPITE a deep playoff run... blogs.forbes.com/mikeozanian/2011/05/02/tampa-bay-lightning-to-post-huge-loss-this-year-despite-stanley-cup-run/I'm sure Nashville is in the same boat; just b/c you go far into the playoffs, doesn't guarantee you that playoff revenues will offset the expenses....lesson to be learned: you MUST support your team throughout those 40+ regular season games as well, otherwise, it just doesn't make a friggin' difference. Something we'll need to remember when we get a team...whenever the puck that is.

Please leave Tampa alone! For the last time THEY-ARE-NOT-GOING-ANYWHERE (and I'm not a fan of theirs, I just see their base is bigger than you think). They have support no matter how much you want to deny it.
Also, Nashville shouldn't even have a team. I am so glad they lost last night as the Canucks have to win as they are carrying the weight of Canada on their shoulders.
If Atlanta is allowed to feaster much longer, if a few years they could be Nashville. Do you want that? This is why I am so anti-Nashville. Because I've seen what a Southern base can become and now they too will never move. Do you want that?

Not including front row at the glass, the Tampa Bay Lightning charge $15-$75 per game for their season tickets.

Well, tickets in Nashville aren't TOO cheap, their average ticket price is $51.04, the League average is $54.25. Concession revenue doesn't make a HUGE difference, it does hurt, but not too bad. I don't know, maybe they'll cut back on the free food next year. Also, I'm not trying to defend Nashville, that's just my .02.

Well, how much does Nashville generate in revenue each season? Do they have the all-you-can eat deals and what-not?

Got any links to prove those deals or for the 10 million dollar loss your predicting? ? Absolutely. Ticket prices/food deals: predators.nhl.com/club/page.htm?id=679562009/2010 operating income (with revenue sharing) -$5.5 million: www.forbes.com/lists/2010/31/hockey-valuations-10_Nashville-Predators_310472.htmlSince revenue sharing is between $10-15 million, the Preds on their own lost $15-20 million last season. This season with an additional 2 rounds of hockey they should add $3.5 million in profit ($500,000 per game x 7 home games. The $500,000 number was obtained from blogs.forbes.com/mikeozanian/2011/05/02/tampa-bay-lightning-to-post-huge-loss-this-year-despite-stanley-cup-run/ ) So without a huge spike in attendance or ticket prices, it's reasonable to assume the Preds revenues will remain roughly the same this year, with the only major addition coming from the $3.5 net income obtained through the playoffs. Therefore, the Preds should lose approximately $10 million this season. Throw in revenue sharing, and they might break even this season with their appearance in the second round.

Where's the free food for all the fans?? That is only for season ticket buyers and in one section of the building. Plus you have to pay 200 extra dollars for the "Free" food option and 800 more for the "Free" beer per year Forbes is not a legit source the predators ownership stated they have never been contacted by them ever and laugh at their estimates

I guess we'll have to just leave it at that. I've been lurking these boards for too long, and have searched for too many statistics to back up my arguments, I'm getting tired of it. During the Del Baggio incident around 2006, there was a Nashville income statement that showed how miserable their bottom line was. I'm not going to look for it, because I've had this argument too many times. If you feel inclined, go ahead and search for it and see for yourself what a mess the franchise was in. An increased attendance with dirt cheap tickets will not turn this franchise around. But I digress, just to end this argument, fine, the Preds will make tons of cash this year and Nashville is a wonderful market despite 25% of their arena having all-you-can-eat specials, and an average ticket price of $40-$50. You win!
