Well, it's official, Phoenix has made the playoffs.
If my spreadsheet calculations are correct, they could theoretically play ANY of the 7 other teams.
Vancouver has locked in 1st. San Jose and Detroit are fighting for 2nd and 3rd. Nashville, Phoenix, LA, Anahiem and Chicago can ALL end up anywhere between 4th and 8th. 2 games to go. Could be a good one.
I'm hoping they end up in 7th and play Detroit.
reasoning;
A) I hate Vancouver, and don't want to have to cheer for them. B) 7th place is semi-likely if they lose their last game. C) Detroit will destroy them. D) The sweet sweet symbolism of Detroit being their last playoff opponent before they move. Shall we say, game 6?
As it stands now, Phoenix is in 5th and will Nashville in the battle of "What's hockey?"

Damn. I forgot to add a ROW point to Dallas. They still have a chance.
If Chicago loses in regulation and Dallas wins, then Dallas will play Vancouver in the 1st round.

Phoenix can no longer be playing the Canucks in the first round.

Why on Earth would we want them playing Detroit or Chicago for that matter? Give your heads a shake, they would fill their arena with their rival transplanted Wings and Hawks fans and then we start the whole "See it works here" BS.
Not a chance I want them playing Det or Chicago
A nice 4 game sweep by the Preds or Sharks would be fine!

Phoenix can no longer be playing the Canucks in the first round. If Chicago, Anaheim, and LA win, and Phoenix loses in their respective final games, the Coyotes drop to 8th.

Anaheim and LA cannot both win -- they are playing against each other. The worst Phoenix can do is 7th, and that scenario requires Anaheim beating LA and Chicago winning. IF LA's loss is in SO/OT, LA drops to 8th on the non-SO wins tiebreaker.

right, I didn't factor that in. 7th it is.
All joking aside, I think that the coyotes will most likely sell out regardless of who they play. There are enough fans in the area who would go just to see a playoff game no matter who it's against.
Maybe having 80% of the arena cheering for the visitors might send a stronger message?

They usually save their best stuff for the Wings. Despite the difference in the standings this year they went 2-2 and played them tough each time.

do not assume Detroit will beat Phoenix!! Wings have sucked Go Jets Go lately and the yotes have a good ol' boring defensive team.As far as the attendance goes.........does it really matter at this point how many fans pack the building and which team they are cheering for? They can say whatever they want about selling out a few games, let them have their "moment", the end is near.

I'd prefer to see them play either San Jose or Nashville , teams that are hungry, playing hard and trying to get past disappointments behind them. If they play Detroit, the Wings goaltending and age , combined with the "revenge factor" from last year will spell trouble.

With so much success comes the inevitable hate....
As much as people hate them, you have to credit the organization for the consistency they've shown in the past twenty years, especially in the salary cap era where people were sure that they would fall off the radar because they couldn't buy up top talent anymore....

I think on this particular board, the hate does not come from the success of the team, but rather being frozen in time as the Jets' last ever opponent, and the team that eliminated the Jets from the playoffs and the NHL.

If the Ducks win tonight (currently up 2-0 after 1) and the Coyotes lose the Ducks jump all the way from 7th to 4th and would play either the Ducks or red wings.
