Just listening to McCown, and they were talking about a number of baseball teams who have removed their relationship with Ticket Master. Due to some new software, it is extremely easy for the clubs to handle the ticketing themselves directly, and cut out the middeman. They are also using it as a revenue stream - they can decrease the ticket surcharges, saving fans some mony, yet still make more money per ticket because none of those surcharges go to an outside agency, but insted go directly to the team.
Could TNSE do this?

Could TNSE do this? My guess is that this would be difficult, as they may have to maintain a relationship with TicketMaster due to owning MTSC. They have a busy arena, and most acts use TicketMaster. Wouldn't mind seeing TicketMaster and their insane charges go away though.

I usually call the ticket reps directly and they get me better prices and better seats than ticketmaster to watch the Moose play, hopefully you can do the same when the NHL arrives cause it saves you about 5-7 bucks a ticket

+1 Ticketmaster is extortionate. How hard can it be to sell tickets on your own these days?

Maybe they could cut out TM all together, and make a little extra cash while saving the fans some. It's all about direct online purchasing straight from the stadium/arena owner.

At the very least it will force Ticket Master to lower prices.

If it's like you say I don't think True North will have any issue selling tickets to anything.

Well if I have to pay a ticket surcharge, I'd rather the money go to the theatre/arena/stadium that I'm actually going to than TM (saving money would be a bonus). Maybe this could work for TNSE.
Also, I don't know if TNSE pays TM to handle the ticketing or not. If that's the case, there's a savings right there.

The best is when Ticketmaster CHARGES you the End-User money to have the ability to Print off your own ticket.....but doesn't charge anything when you get them to and Pick it up.
Does it really cost $1.75+ to send you the email? Brutal...
I would hope TNSE could get a program like this however; now with the new Stadium, etc...all the concerts that come in; There is no way I could see them completely shutting Ticketmaster out. ( Although, sure love to see it......)

With 41 games a year bringing in tens of millions of dollars, I would think it would be very profitable for TNSE to pay a consultant to work on an in-house ticketing system.

Found a sample of the software www.showare.com/Looks like a newer company. So far the largest facility they work with is a 60,000 seat racetrack. According to their site they have 500 venues so far that use this program, but it looks like the're just getting into sports. From what I could see thy have one hockey team so far - the Seattle Thunderbirds of the WHL.

( Although, sure love to see it......) Why not, though? I could understand back in the day before e-commerce, but these days just put up winnipegtickets.com, and anyone anywhere can buy a ticket for a game or show at the MTSC or new stadium by going to that website. It shouldn't be all that hard in 2011.

I have attended a number of Thunderbird games and it always allows you to select the seats you want, not just "best available." I think it is cool to see what seats are available, if you want an aisle, or if no pairs are available you can see if there are two seats with the same number just one row apart, etc. This is something ticketmaster should have. Actually I just wish ticketmaster would just go away. Charging people to print their own tickets at home...ridiculous.

I would be really happy if they could do the ticketing in house. What really annoys me abou tm is the reselling of tickets at higher prices by tm themselves! I really don't trust them at all.
