There's been a lot of head-scratching things said on all sides of the Phoenix Coyotes/city of Glendale/NHL/Goldwater Institute mess during this long and winding road. But the stupidity spilled into the team dressing room this week.
With the city, team management, league and frightened fans all sweating to keep a hockey heartbeat in Arizona, everyone's favorite roster-filler, social networking maven and comic relief Paul Bissonnette said this week that the whole idea of the Coyotes folding and leaving for Winnipeg is quite intriguing.
"It would be exciting to be the team that went back to Canada," ol' BizNasty opined. "C'mon, we'd be treated like gods ... The fans would be the opposite. The media would be different. There's no pressure from the media here, and it only comes from inside the room."
These pearls of wisdom come from the same guy who refers to his habit of Twittering while on the commode as "Twooping."
Coyote fans, already put through the wringer for the last five years, surely appreciate knowing what you really think of them, Biz. You've had your teammates' backs for two years; too bad the local fans don't rate the same.
Hopefully not every Coyote player and staff member is dreaming of his new position as a rock star in The Great White North.
Now to your media comments. As a guy who covered the Coyotes as a beat writer for eight years, I'll be the first to admit this isn't New York or Toronto when it comes to cheap shots and coaching from the press box. And while the whole idea that a professional athlete making millions of dollars needs to have the outside pressure from talk show screamers and hacks like myself for motivation ... hey, whatever works for you.
From your position at the bottom of the depth chart - a roadie, in rock star parlance - and having spent nearly half the season in street clothes, the idea that you fully expect to accompany the Coyotes to their next destination, should that come to pass, is the flawed part of your rant.
Considering Winnipeg is currently the home of the minor league Manitoba Moose, your chances of going there next season are probably better if the Coyotes stay here.
One goal and one fight a month is not much of a resume.
OK Biz, consider your all-important "media pressure" on. I fully expect a hat trick against the Ducks tonight - provided the rash of Phoenix injuries indeed employs you beyond the pregame skate.
No hard feelings, Biz. I just make this twoop up as I go along.
