Let's assume for a second that all prayers are answered and the NHL returns to Wpg fall 2011. I think their farm-team system will also have to be revamped as San Antonio doesn't fit with value-added marketing plans for Wpg. I hope TNSE seriously looks at selling the Manitoba Moose to somebody willing to place them in Saskatoon. I think Saskatoon is ready for an AHL franchise (heck, they may yet have some NHL games at Credit Union Place if Ice Edge / Hulsizer are successful in the end). This will be unpopular among many Winnipeggers, but I feel the team should really encompass a prairie pride feeling. It will be based in Wpg, but training camp each year can be in Saskatoon, and maybe even 2 or 3 regular season games. Maybe for those games the team can have the nickname "Ice Riders" and play with green, white, and silver unis. It will be very important to market to a larger audience than the 400 - 500,000 Winnipeggers who can go to games on a regular basis. North-western Ontario, all of Manitoba, and all of Saskatchewan should be focused on as fans of this new team to truly build a dynamic future for the hockey club, the MTS Centre, and downtown Winnipeg.

A "Prairie Pride" idea isn't bad, but may I suggest that instead of having Jets, or whoever, play preseason and some regular season games in Saskatchewan, why not move the Jets AHL affiliate team there?

I'm not sure how the AHL would feel about having a team in Saskatoon...maybe Regina; its just easier to get to. Regardless, is it too early to start talking "roster changes"?
1st. Can we try to talk Teemu out of retirement (ala Bobby Hull signing on Portage & Main) and sign him for a one year contract?
2nd. Khabibulin will be a free agent -- can't we pay him $500K and have him be the backup to Bryz-er -- they could be the very first all russian goaltending tandem in the NHL. LOL!!!

sorry man... our hockey team... having 'riders' in our name... even for just 1-3 games, and wearing... green... just sounds disgusting to me

I was discussing this today with another Jets fan and he made a good point. We may be looking at this whole AHL thing wrong. Mark Chipman may keep the AHL Moose and say move them to TBay, keeping the players he has under contract and moving the Coyote prospects from San Antonio to his AHL team. The Vancouver Canucks could take the San Antonio franchise and move them more locally and add their prospects to that team. It kind of makes sense.
Why would Mark give up his developed AHL team only to have another he has no background with?

I'm sure MC is looking around now, or even better yet, already made deals with some cities outside of the Peg so the Moose can be shipped out there.... Wouldn't surprise me if among the places he spoke to would be Thunder Bay, and Fargo... ;D
