** I think there may soon be another Referendum only, it may be a "Kick Quebec Out" Verdict..... **Quebec City mayor says Tories suicidal for shunning arena project in his cityPosted: 03/2/2011 QUEBEC - Quebec City Mayor Regis Labeaume says the federal Conservatives are taking a suicidal position by refusing to help finance a new sports arena for his city.Labeaume says he was stunned to hear federal cabinet minister Josee Verner say the private-sector contribution to the project was insufficient for Ottawa to be involved. Verner, the minister responsible for the Quebec City region, did say Tuesday that the federal government might help with infrastructure costs in the area around the proposed arena. Speaking on a Montreal radio station today, Labeaume said he cannot understand why Ottawa is shunning the project and speculates it might be because of pressure. Several other cities that want arenas are watching closely to see what the federal government does about the Quebec building. The Conservatives have most of their 11 Quebec seats around Quebec City. So far, Quebec City and the provincial government are on the hook for picking up the estimated $400-million tab for the facility.Media giant Quebecor has been licensed to name and manage the arena. www.winnipegfreepress.com/breakingnews/quebec-city-mayor-says-tories-suicidal-for-shunning-arena-project-in-his-city-117252658.html

Can someone answer for me why it'll take 3 years to complete the construction of the arena? I read late 2012 construction will start and end in early-mid 2015. Didn't the MTS Centre take only a little over a year to build?

4 X the Budget = a much longer build time. IF ( and that's a BIG IF ) Quebec gets the arena they are looking for, it'll blow ours out of the water in terms of how nice it is however; by then WE will be the ones with an NHL Team while, they may suffer the same fate Hamilton did by building the Copps......

Part of the problem is solely on the idiotic conservative MPs in Quebec City who stood in front of a camera wearing Nords jerseys asking for money. It put Harper and his party in a dangerous situation. Theres no way that the federal government could fork over the amount QC wanted, it would be the end of his tenure.

They made such a bad move. I'm sure they did that without talking to the PM...

That's also what I think. Who cares? The area will be there no matter Ottawa's position, but no tories MP will be left in Qc.

lol... Quebec is a joke.... Political Suicide? Seriously Mr.Charest? Alberta and the West are the reason Tories are in power... Quebec is a drain on the pocket book that the West is balancing. If the Tories would have put money in that building, we'd have already had an election.... Quebec... I dare you to hold another referendum. As the worst offender of the "Have Nots"... We would gladly show you the door. Your leaving means much more benefits and wealth for the rest of us who are paying your bills. Cheers!

If Canada is divisible, Quebec certainly is.

Not sure your friends in the east would like this though. Think twice.
You are just forgetting one little thing, the east (including Quebec) send lots of moneys to the west 15 20 years ago.
You should kiss our feet.
As long I dont have to live in your toxic waste country, I'd like to stay in Canada.
Keep your racism for other places than hockey board.
Ban me from your board if you want, I wont let teenagers morons write stupiditys been chicken enough to write it only in english.

Hockey-related comments I can stomach, but Tsmof's comments border on just venting anger towards Quebec.
Come on guys, I know it's frustrating to have Quebec in so much debt and all the political aspects, but there are Quebec and francophone supporters of the ROTJ too here. Don't go overboard is all i'm saying....

in the future (like 20 years from now), I sure separatist will disapear (well, less than 10 %).
Young people aren't interessed in this anymore. They speak both french and english. They are tired of the way the province works. I'm sure things will change.

This is a hockey board but obviously the french VS english element manifests in many different forms of hockey more recently in the who gets the nhl first qc or winnipeg which will almost certainly be Winnipeg.
As a country you have to accept all the other cultures including Quebec, now obviously when that side wants to seperate its hard to accept them but as was previously said that whole era is long gone.
For the Tories its unfortunate that this whole thing will likely bite them on the Go Jets Go, those MPs really shot themselves ans their party in the foot and sadly it seems Quebec residents much like other Canadians dont have the brains to really think about what should or shouldnt happen. All in all it is annoying considering Quebec's economic status that they have MP's begging for federal money, are insistent on making an olympic bid and in dong so have built 2 facilities both of which werent good enough.
