Situation in Quebec City:
Quebecor says they will buy a team. The government says they will build an arena (Scheduled start of construction is 21 months from now, Completion is almost 5 years away).
Situation in Winnipeg:
TNSE built an arena 7 years ago, have been in talks with the NHL almost as long, and have submitted a bona-fide offer for $170 Million to buy a team.
What we can take from this:
1) Don't worry, Winnipeg is clearly still first in line for a team. 2) Quebec certainly could take a team tomorrow, assuming the arena does get built in the near future. 3) Although Quebec is certainly a viable option, at this point there are certainly risks and/or question marks about their ownership, since the arena is still far from complete and the potential owners have not actually invested 1 penny of money into either an arena or hockey team of any level.
I don't think anything I said here is opinion, it is all fact (but correct me if I'm wrong).
So yeah, Quebec is a viable option, but they have some more work to do before you can say 100% for sure they are ready (i.e. at this point, the arena could be cancelled tomorrow, and we have nothing but words from Quebecor - they have not put a penny into the arena (just said that in the future they will enter into a management lease agreement and name sponsorship).
So YES, Quebec is a viable location, they COULD take a team tomorrow. But things also still COULD go terribly wrong for them, that's why if an NHL team truly HAD to be relocated Quebec could be an option.
I don't see what there is to discuss right now (as it relates to ROTJ), clearly Winnipeg is ahead of Quebec, but Quebec is well on it's way to becoming NHL ready and for that reason, if Atlanta and Phoenix are truly done for there is a viable option for both of them.

Yep! OK! You guys win! Quebec IS 100% ready to accept a full time NHL team! Very sorry for doubting you! My mistake! Hey, I noticed that when-ever you are online there are a few other members that have the exact train of thought as yourself online at the exact same time, then offline at the exact same time, it's happened more than a few times today. That's strange.

Let's bury the hatchet. I do respect you guys, and no one can question your passion for an NHL team's return! I truely hope (and am confident) it will return. Obviously my main concern is Winnipeg first, and if QC does not get NHL the same year as Winnipeg, I hope Nordiques has a form such as this (that I would join). We just don't see eye to eye on a few things, but DO wish for a common goal. (and I think you're further than the 15% I said.....but not 100%)
Best of luck to both cities!

This thread is a total waste of time. Indeed! C'mon the Peg and QC are in this together and having BOTH back is ultimately BETTER for the league!

im from quebec and phoenix is for you guyz ! West team ! Says the guy who continually stats that Winnipeg is a shithole city and that no players will ever want to play in. Yes, Davydave. I remember what you wrote about Winnipeg last month. I KNOW who you are. You have bashed Winnipeg as a city several times; I've witnessed it. Several LNHQuebec posters continually bash Winnipeg not only as a market, but as a city. Several of us lurk on LNHQuebec, and I'm going to hold you to what you say. What I said to you before still stands, and I don't buy your phony Winnipeg support here. Matrix, however, you are a cool guy! My hat goes off to you and a few others there who continually back Winnipeg returning into the NHL. We appreciate your support over there

IMO, QC is ready. HOWEVER, I do believe the NHL won't commit until the new arena is officially under construction. Until then, they are waiting.

A few things I need to put out there.... I wouldn't be shocked to see the Coyotes sold to someone outside Winnipeg who is willing to pay a premium for a franchise right away. (Quebecor) The new price for the coyotes would have to be increased to cover the additional debt from this season. I am hearing they will lose 45 million this season?? I bet the new asking price will be $190M. Quebecor has the money and are VERY eager to make this happen now. They are putting huge private money into the building of the new rink, this is arena deal in Quebec is a sure thing. TSNE wins in the end because they purchase the Thrasher for $130-$140M. I can't see Chipman buying a team at more than market value. Ex. anything over $140 for the Coyotes franchse. On top of this the Thrashers franchise is basically the Oilers but 2 years ahead in the rebuild! Hmmm.... It's a no brainer when you consider TSNE is not buying hockey equipment but player contracts. The Jet-o-meter moved on the day the Thrashers internal legal battles were resolved. People have complained that gongdale is only holding us up. The Coyotes situation gets so much attention because it is the cinderella story but it's crystal clear that TSNE doesn't feel the Winnipeg Jets brand holds any extra value, if it did you wouldn't hear that the team won't be called the Winnipeg Jets. I am confident that TSNE wants the Thrashers and they will get them. -AM Considering the team would be relocated to Winnipeg, which automatically makes it more valuable. How do you know what TNSE's idea of fair market value is? Yes of course, the Coyotes aren't worth $170 million in Phoenix, but how do you know they aren't worth that or more in Wininpeg? Because you pay for what the current market value is. Not a hypothetical value that's made up speculating into the future....

Yeah I do, but I think he was referring to his mistake on not moving the Habs to New Orleans when he had the chance. I kid, I kid.
