Ohhh to be clear... The team should be called: Les Nordiques de Québec
When I run that through the google translater, it comes out as: Quebec Nordiques

You know what? I never really considered the name before. "Quebec Nordiques" would be a referal to the entire province (likely outside Montreal) as opposed to having it say "Quebec City Nordiques". Sadly, I'm just realizing this now. This team was/will be marketed for that entire province, not just QC!

More serious, I am no in the marketing business but team names with more then 3 syllables don't work. Is there only one professional team in north america with a name longer then 3 syllabales? ... except the New England Revolution of course. The New York Knickerbockers You're right. Like, everybody say the Knicks. Like the 49'ers, many people use the Niners 76'ers the Sixers. Seattle Supersonics were often designated the Sonics. I did'nt think about the Timberwolves, but, I don't know, this name doesn't sound good..

It would be the case if the name was Les Nordiques du Québec but it was and will be Les Nordiques DE Québec. The DE changes it all and clearly its the city and not the province. I know its some tricky french subtility.

I couldn't imagine any other team other than the Nordiques, just like I couldn't imagine anything other than the Jets here... Just so much history and ties to the names...

Ugh it has to be less than 3 syllabes for sure. I went to a Remparts vs Oceanic game once and the Oceanic fans that made the trip to Quebec tried to drown our Go Remparts Go cheers with Go Go Go, Oceanic Go, and it sounded weird. X.x

Just like the team in Winnipeg should be called the Jets, the team in Quebec City should be called the Nordiques.

I would go with Quebec Citadelles I remember those guys. They had great jerseys and great logos. Too bad a Habs farm team in QC = NO.

I would go with Nordiques, Citadelles, or Voyageurs (which almost became the Wild's name) I never said that. :/ The AHL Bulldogs were only named that once they moved out of Quebec. The Bulldogs name would work for an NHL team in QC because that's what their NHL team was called back in the 1920's and as a result has historical meaning/value. The Citadelles was the name of Montreal's farm team, and never as Quebec City's own team without being an affiliate of an NHL team. Plus they didn't really hang around long enough to have sentiment for the team name even slightly comparable to that of the Nordiques name. Voyaguers could work, although that again, was the name of Montreal's farm team while in Halifax. It would just plain make more sense if it was named after something that already has historical value, is already there ready for usage, and is already loved by the people of QC.

Actually, the Bulldogs have been named the Bulldogs since '97 - they were an Oiler affiliate first, then the Oilers left (went dormant for a year, then to Toronto then Edmonton then dormancy then Oklahoma City) and Montreal moved the Citadelles in. Besides, the Nordiques affiliate was once...the Halifax Citadels. (Now the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, my local team)

Okay, I guess Citadels would work, but it just makes sense and feels better to go with a name that has meaning and value.

Nordiques. End of story. If the Jets can go back to their original name, the Nords should do but I have no doubt they will with what Pedaleau has been saying.

Nordiques, but if not, I like the name Quebec Harfangs. A Harfang is french for snowy owl.
