The Nordiques may not be a slam dunk because of naming rights. I'm not positive if the name "Quebec Nordiques" is owned by the NHL or the Colorado Avalanche but there's no guarantee the team would be called the Quebec Nordiques.
I personally feel that if the city can capture the name, they should call it the Quebec City Nordiques to, at the very least, differentiate the difference in history between the two clubs.

Pierre Karl Peladeau said that if a team is brought back, the name will be Nordiques
You will NEVER see "Quebec City Something", will always be Québec

More or less all of the "retired" team names are owned by the league. Nordiques is for sure.

jetsorbust is right. Bill Daly said last year in an interview that all of those former names and trademarks are owned by the league and when they relocate the rights must return to the league

PK Peladeau wears a Nordiques jersey is in own office! In fact, same for the Jets. So, bring back the Nords and Jets.

It seems to me that TNSE is the only ownership that is adamant about calling their new team an old team's name, I think Howard Baldwin said that he would call a new Hartford team the Whalers, Peladeau will name a new team the Nordiques, why not the Jets TNSE?
And there's no way that the team should be called the "Quebec City Nordiques" or anything, that just doesn't roll off the tongue.

I think the word you're looking for is averse.

I really like the name Quebec Citadelles.
It was the name of their short-lived AHL team.

Can't it be anymore obvious which is the best name for the Quebec City franchise? After all the Avs don't own the name rights to it!

All I can say is many things have gone on in this city under the radar regarding bring a team back to Winnipeg for years, and if you didn't look for it you would not find it. Same may be said for Quebec, Arena is now going to be built, Got an owner, Maybe Bettman flew there too and made some promises. Don't fool yourself promises were made here in Winnipeg, or Mark just likes to gamble with his money, you decide.

More serious, I am no in the marketing business but team names with more then 3 syllables don't work.
Is there only one professional team in north america with a name longer then 3 syllabales? ... except the New England Revolution of course.
