A winnipeg team has the advantage of having a long distance from every other NHL team. The markets of Northern Ontario and Eastern Saskatchewan would favour traveling to Winnipeg(and we all know how much saskatchewan sports fans like to travel).
If winnipeg signs a few players from these areas and uses them in commercials promoting the team(let's call them the jets from this point). fans are sure to come running, bringing ticket sales and other spending with them.

Free banjo-shaped hockey sticks for a night in November? Dress up the zamboni like a combine? The possibilities are endless.

Group sales to Sask. fans will probably generate a bit of revenue, but I would guess that they're too far away to make a significant difference. I don't know that it's worth it to market specifically to them.
I recall seeing a group from Saskatoon watching a Jets-Leafs game in the early 90s...the crowd was very pro-Leafs.

I could see the Jets holding part of their training camp out of town (in Regina, Saskatoon or Fargo) from year to year. This would help market the team to the outer regions of the marketing area. This could likely include an exhibition game as well. They could also hold a inner squad game in Brandon every year to market the team to western Manitoba.

It would really work in our favor if the Moose moved to Saskatoon (as was the rumor once upon a time).
I could see fans traveling the distance to see those prospects play in the big league.

I just don't see the Moose going to Saskatoon. They have the Blades and I doubt that city is going to give up the WHL team it has had for decades in favour of the Moose.

I think having an AHL team made up of many of the top prospects drafted from various junior leagues who are developing towards the NHL would be a huge step up from junior hockey. I also think hosting teams from various major cities in the US and Canada is much more high profile than playing games against the PA Raiders. Personally I think Saskatoon is ready for professional hockey. Move the Blades to Fort Mac.

I think marketing to Sask/N.O. for TV ratings would be good,as far as wanting ppl to buy tix for games is a lost cause, cause no tix will be had.
Selling merchandise to these places, another lost cause, that goes into the NHL's pockets as well.So it wouldnt matter if they bought a Jets shirt or a Pred's one.
As far as the Moose to Toon Town,Not sure how the fans would react, but Im sure restaurants and hotels would be better off having visiting AHL teams in town more then the WHL ones. And the players will be paying rent to someone for a place to lay their head at night for a full season.
In other words,AHL players will be spending a helluva lot more money in Toon Town then junoir players ever will.
