It would be absolutely awesome of Winnipeg & Quebec both got a team next season. 8 Canadian teams back in the NHL!!! Hockey day in Canada...4 games on CBC, Vancouver vs. Calgary, Edmonton vs. Winnipeg, Toronto Vs. Ottawa, Quebec vs. Montreal. how awesome would that be? 4 Canadian rivalries all over again!! Yeah right. As if the short one will allow this.

Nosunbelt, I have no doubt in my mind that they can sell out 18,000 every night. Just to put this in perspective I will throw some numbers out there: - The Quebec Remparts in the QMJHL are averaging 10,928 fans for JUNIOR hockey right now. That is double the next team in the QMJHL, and 2,000 more fans than any other team in the AHL, QMJHL, WHL, OHL, CHL or ECHL. (Hershey is #2 at 9,238 fans/game). - They normally get a spike in attendance at the end of the year, and they averaged 10,980 in 07-08.. 11,721 in 08-09 and 12,089 fans a game last year. - The current count of 10,928 is also more than what the Islanders (10,111) or Coyotes (10,840) are averaging in the NHL right now Oh, and that is without inflating numbers.. - Also, according to the "Why Not Canada" TV special, they started a pre-sale of the luxury boxes last year and it is already currently sold out (at NHL prices), with a waiting list of a dozen companies waiting to get in. I say that is an improvement on Atlanta! ** link to attendance figures ** www.mib.org/~lennier/hockey/leagueatt.cgi

I'm kind of thinking that we should take care of our own backyard before worrying about others. Kudos to Quebec on starting the process of constructing a new arena and future aquisition of an NHL team. End of story. Right. Many of us have invested a lot of time (many YEARS) and energy promoting ROTJ amongst people we know and believing in what it would do for Winnipeg. This very moment is an odd time to be jumping on someone else's bandwagon. Once we have secured our team, I'll be on the QC and even Hamilton bandwagon in a heartbeat (being the good Canadian I am). And for the record, I believe QC is an awesome NHL town, they were our brothers in the WHA and NHL and when they get their team I believe they will support it exceptionally well.

Being from Atlantic Canada, I had a connection to both teams. Quebec City was the closest team to us, and therefore there was that connection. But we also housed the Jets' farm team (Moncton Hawks) and that is my Jets connection. I am almost as excited to see the Nordiques return inching closer, than the Jets return inching closer. Still more of a Jets fan than Nords fan

When their arena is ready it would be just in time to engulf the Atlanta Thrashers.

Why wouldn't they sell their parking rights to pay for it?

Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd bring on the "Quebec is next in line" and "Too bad Winnipeg" stories. I'll bet this isn't official for months, and they don't start digging for close to year.

That's the thing. They don't need to have the arena built. They can play out of Le Colisee until it is finished.

en anglais: MONTREAL - The group Quebecor and his president, Rock Karl Péladeau, officially deposited an important offer with the City of Quebec in the hope to take a party activates in the construction of a new amphitheater. The new one was unveiled by the columnist Yvon Pedneault, Friday evening, in the framework of the transmission "The Game", to LCN and VAT. According to him, the suggestion of Quebecor represents an investment of several tens of millions of dollars and she directly is linked to the management of this new center, so at the level of the athletic property that to the chapter of the spectacles. Pedneault nevertheless underlined that there was not any understanding of participant, for the moment, between the two groups. Earlier, Friday, the vice president of the executive committee of the Old Capital, Richard Side, confirmed that the financing was "regulated" in order to endow the extremist-modern city of an amphitheater and that an announcement would be done in the next weeks. Even if Mr. Side, shaded its matters, some hours later, there remains that the file progresses and one expect that the mayor Labeaume unveils the big lines of the project in a very compared future. Yvon Pedneault recalled that a team of professional hockey to Quebec would be located in the smallest market of the LNH and than, consequently, the gait constitutes a big financial risk for any investor. It is necessary therefore that come them back to the windows, in the sector hockey, are not the only ones of the business. The sector spectacle becomes important to increase these income and as the business counts on partners such Reemerged Angelil and Julie Snyder, endowed with a big expertise in the matter, the matter model becomes more logical.
