I have started going to a few Moose games this year and have found them to be enjoyable. I notice that the crowds seem to be mostly families and lots of young kids. I wonder how many Moose season ticket holders would actually take on NHL season tickets. It's like two different markets to me.
So why not keep the Moose here (41 more dates at the MTS) as the new NHL teams farm team. The ywould save a ton on air fare, they could play that cap game by "sending" players to the minors in between games.
The problem is boxes and sponsers, but perhaps there may be two different markets for that too.
Ok, now flame away at this

Didnt GLendale (or Phoenix) have an AHL team for many years? How did it do?
I think the point is, if the government is willing to be financially raped to keep the NHL, they couldnt do worse to let the NHL go and get an AHL franchise. They can charge the same for tickets, probably draw the same committed 2000-3000 fans and not get hosed for the next 40 years.

On Wikipedia, it says that the Moose will be relocated to Thunder Bay. Wikipedia never lies so it must be true.

They can charge the same for tickets, probably draw the same committed 2000-3000 fans and not get hosed for the next 40 years. Before the Coyotes, the city had the " Phoenix Roadrunners", which were founded, folded and brought back from the dead a few times. - They were in the WHA from 1974-77 (and actually played against Winnipeg ;D ) ... they averaged 7443, 6464 and 6985 fans/game (which was just below WHA averages). - They then entered the Central Hockey League in 1977. I have no attendance figures, but they lasted a whopping THREE MONTHS, folding in December after a 4-20-3 record. - Then, they joined the IHL in 1989 and lasted until 1997. Again, no attendance figures, but the IHL was averaging 5000-6000 per game in the mid-to-late-90s. No idea if the actual team reached those numbers or not. - They then joined the ECHL from 2005-2009 and averaged 3694, 3711, 3347 and 3024 in their 4 seasons. Now, my opinion, if we cut the inflated BS numbers from the NHL, it seems like 6,000 is the range in Phoenix. They were averaging that in the WHA, in all eventuality they were probobly averaging that in the IHL, did a bit less than that in the ECHL (but the Coyotes were in town too), and now the Coyotes seem to be hovering around 5,000-6,000 per game. Seems safe to say that the 5-year "honeymoon phase" for NHL hockey back then brought in another 6,000 or so for a while and kept numbers respectable from '96 to the early 2000s, but it seems like it has now hovered back to the city's natural hockey-loving number of around 6,000. It almost seems like, no matter what hockey is available, 6,000 people or thereabouts will show up. No matter what the league, they always seem to get the same attendance. If that is the case, ship the Moose there, and with the reduction in salaries/operating costs in the AHL, they might actually break even with 6,000/game!

They could also keep the franchise and suspend it or let it sit dorment for a few years, all depends on what the outclause is with the Nucks and the aff for a future team may be.Then they could place/run a team where and how they they want.
Moose vs Roadrunners in the old IHL.Looks like a NHL crowd to me in PHX nowadays. And they played in a 30 year old arena at the time.

Ok, now flame away at this I agree! look at the attendance with the other AHL teams. most are average half of what we do. The NHL will sell out fast, what about all the other people that still want to go? surely we could put 4000 in, with even the Jets here. Why not show the World that in fact we are a hockey hub! Think of all the money Chipman would save by having both teams here and how much money he would make have an extra 42 games in an already busy areana. Go Jets Go we have the ice plex for practices. it would make so much sense! and be able to follow a player's career from AHL to NHL in the same city would be priceless!
