www.thehockeynews.com/articles/37086-Thrashers-stage-fake-police-chase-with-mascot-in-effort-to-sell-tickets.htmlThrashers stage fake police chase with mascot in effort to sell tickets The Canadian Press 2010-12-15 18:55:00 DULUTH, Ga. - The attendance-challenged Atlanta Thrashers are getting desperate to sell tickets. The team staged a fake police chase with its mascot on Wednesday in an attempt to pique interest in the surging team, which has won 10 of 12 games but still ranks 28th in the NHL in fan support. "Thrash" was picked up by officers in suburban Gwinnett County after he supposedly stole a Zamboni from the team's training complex and took off down a busy highway. It was all just a publicity stunt. The team says Thrash will be released from custody as soon as 5,000 additional tickets are sold for the remaining five home games in December. Atlanta is averaging just 11,789 per game, a drop of more than 14 per cent from the same time a year ago.

LOL, kudos to the Thrasher organizational. Probably won't help much, but at least it was unique.

That's the difference between a real hockey market vs atlanta. If it was winnipeg, they would do it to raise money or food bank donations instead of for tickets. Thinking about it now, a stunt like this doesn't make sense for a team set to relocate to winnipeg.

Funny comment posted in the G&M comments (maybe by someone here?):
April 2011 - the University student paid minimum wage to don the Atlanta Thrashers 'Thrash' mascot continues to linger in the Gwinnett County jail, having been 'arrested' in mid-December 2010. A club promotion to sell 5,000 tickets in December came up 4899 short. The mascot was conveniently forgotten (and unfortunately not missed) at Thrasher games to the end of the 2010-11 NHL season. "I missed my first and second semester exams along with Spring Break...please someone, post bail - the food in here is awful...".

Lol its funny to see a franchise beg for support from local fans but hey at least the team is trying to do something different then ask for hundreds of millions of dollars in subsidies. That might be next though Honestly somebody should make a video instead of thrash stealing a zamboni he should be driving a huge semi truck with thrasher gear towards winnipeg.

All I kept seeing when the reporter was behind the "Gwinnett"cop car.was the name Winnipeg Jets I think the fake interview with the eyewitness says it all about the hockey market (who knows it could have real too ) "I seen a big bird, riding a big green machine up the road"
