blogs.sun-sentinel.com/sports_hockey_panthers/2010/10/commish-bettman-says-panthers-arent-going-anywhere-but-up-with-tallon.htmlNHL Commissioner Gary Bettman held a national conference call today and he reiterated that the Florida Panthers are staying put in Sunrise and have never been a candidate for relocation (despite poor attendance and poor results over the last decade). He’s confident that GM Dale Tallon can turn around the franchise like he did in Chicago. “First of all the Panthes have not been and are not a candidate for relocation. I’m not sure where this speculation comes from, but it’s completely unfounded. Dale Tallon, as we all know joined the Panthers, and he’s in the process of doing the things he believes is necessary to make the team competitive, to rebuild to the extent appropriate, and my guess is if he’s as successful as he was in Chicago people in South Florida will be very happy and my guess is also you don’t do the types of things he’s doing with a short-term objective in mind. “I mean if the team makes the playoffs this year, great, but I think he’s really looking to rebuild the team and set it on the right course for the longer term and that’s consistent with the way he’s been as general manager in the past.”

Well here's to hoping they continue to suck and expidite the process of leaving town!
Tampa Bay won cup and they still barely sold out games (I know barely sold out means they still sold it out, but when you have tickets available to a game 7 of the cup finals an hour before puck drop... just come on!).
And within the next two years the Lightning's attendance quickly and steadily dropped... unless Florida, Nashville, Phoenix, Atlanta and a few other teams can find a way to ALL win the cup EVERY year... I don't like their chances!

Anyone else tired of hearing Bettman compare sunbelt franchises to Chicago?

He'll probably say this during the whole season to not hurt those teams' attendance then their 3000 fans will get a big surprise around May/June. Nordiques relocation was announced on a May 25th (although this was a strike-shortened season)

At least Bettman is finally acknowledging that there are teams (plural, meaning more than just Phoenix, most likely Atlanta) that ARE "candidates for relocation".
Really, if the Coyotes and Thrashers relocate to Winnipeg and Quebec City, I could care less about what happens to the Panthers, Predators, Jackets, etc.
Hamilton would be nice too, but MLSE isn't going to allow that to happen.

Give teams to Winnipeg, Quebec City, Hartford, Hamilton, Houston, Seattle, and Portland. Those cities actually have interest in hockey (even Houston) unlike a number of the sunbelt cities that we have right now.

I'm willing to bet the Panthers are going to be one of three teams that will relocate in the near future! FL can't support more than one team if at all!
