Folk Fest probably hurts sales too.

Doubt it. Most hippies don't watch football. Or even sports for that matter. To much competition, not enough hugging.

Why is everyone saying "finally we have a QB"? Buck Pierce is good, but he has a long way to go before he can rival Khari Jones at his peak. Even Kevin Glenn was a top-flight QB and probably would have won us the cup until his arm broke in the Eastern Final.
I like Buck Pierce too, but let's not get carried away. He is one hard hit away from not being able to remember his own name anymore.

hey now, I enjoy folkfest and football It seems as though there is definately a refreshed vibe around town this year and more of a positive attitude towards the Blue this year. Hopefully we can get some consistent sold out crowds this year with lots of passion. What you mentioned is true though in most cities, team wins= people come.

Guess who got hurt....Pierce..out for the season. July 16, 2010 Written by: Keith McCullough My how the tables have turned. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats came in to Friday’s game as a wounded animal on the back of two disappointing losses to start the year but now it’s the Bombers who are left searching for answers after a 28-7 loss to the tabbies at Ivor Wynne Stadium. Knowing that they needed a win to avoid falling to 0-3 before two tough games against Montreal and Saskatchewan, the Tiger-Cats got off to the best possible start in forcing a Bomber two-and-out and then scoring on their first possession when Kevin Glenn hit DeAndra’ Cobb for a 2-yard touchdown pass after moving the ball efficiently from deep in their own territory. The Bombers never really recovered after the bad start and Kevin Glenn continued to play well against his former team throwing another touchdown pass to import receiver Maurice Mann for a 14-0 halftime lead before a controversial refereeing decision ended the Bombers’ hopes for good. Glenn lead the Tiger-Cats into the Bomber red-zone and took off on a quarterback sneak. As he approached the first down line, Glenn was hammered and appeared to fumble the football well before his knees hit the ground. He was ruled down by contact on the field and Paul LaPolice’s challenge was shockingly denied as Hamilton kept the ball and promptly scored on the next play – another Glenn to Mann connection – to put the game to bed. To make matters worse for Winnipeg, star quarterback Buck Pierce injured his knee after taking a hard hit late in the third quarter and had to be replaced by Steven Jyles. There is no word on how serious the injury is but Jyles was solid upon entering the game and lead the Bombers on a touchdown drive capped off by his 4-yard touchdown scamper but it was all for not as Cobb capped his best game of the season with a 6-yard run to put some gloss on the score line. The Bombers defence – which was so spectacular against Hamilton in week 1 – struggled in allowing over 400 yards to the Ticat offence. The pass rush that was unstoppable in the opening game managed just one sack from Odell Willis but did get good performances from Ike Charlton and Brandon Stewart who had 6 tackles each. Offensively, Pierce was unspectacular in going 10 for 19 for 117 yards before his injury but Fred Reid had his best game of the year with 84 yards on just 8 carries and Terrence Edwards had 7 catches for 99 yards. The 290 total yards by the offence was the lowest this season. While the special teams did perform better in keeping Hamilton return star Marcus Thigpen under control, penalties were a major issue for the Bombers as they were guilty of 13 penalties for 148 yards. The loss drops the Bombers into a tie for last in the CFL East Division with Hamilton at 1-2. They will look to take the positives from the loss and get back on track before their next game at home to the Edmonton Eskimos on July 24th. They won’t have to wait long for revenge however as they play the Ticats twice more in the opening 7 weeks of the CFL season. Let's not get too carried away - yet.

Further to my last post above, Kevin Glenn made Buck Pierce look like a high school QB...Glenn was on fire last night. It made me rue the decision to let him go even more.
Fans here are so fickle...you have a couple of bad games and everyone is ready to run you out of town. The only question is why the Bomber office takes fan whining seriously.
Makes me worry about the fate of our NHL team once it comes back...after the first five game losing streak you'll have angry mobs. People in this city could learn a thing or two when it comes to patience.

Bombers D made Glenn look like an allstar, not Pierce.
Bombers did not play well at all.
I turned off the game when Glenn fumbled, and the Bombers recovered but the reffs, even after video review decided to let Ticats continue their drive. A few other calls like that as well. Makes it tough to take the CFL seriously with year after year of terrible officiating. Makes you wonder if something else was going on other than just simple human error.

Glenn was, and still is awful!
To almost reverse your post: Just because he had ONE good game last night, doesn't mean he's a superstar. He's still just as bad with them, as he was with us.

That was absolutely ridiculous. Couldn't believe it. But, the Bombers did play very poorly and Glenn was on fire that game. Pierce is a solid QB and of course losing him hurts. Let's see what Jyles can do next game I suppose- I think he can do well.

I think lapolice would love to see jyles do well. He seems to be really high on him. Edmonton will be very hungry for a win so shoukd be a tough game

@ Shtinky You must be on drugs... Khari Jones holds the club record with 29 interceptions in one season. Also in 2001, his "great season" can be attributed to: Milt Stegall, Robert Gordon, Arland Bruce and Geroy Simon in the receiving depth charts. Anyone, including myself could have put up some descent numbers. He also had a Spectacular tandem running team in Roberts/Sellers. Jones was a talentless bum who proved it when he was subsequently cut by Calgary, Edmonton and Hamilton. The guy had a short careers and played on 5 of the 8 teams.
Kevin Glenn also legendary with picks and interceptions. Without Arland Bruce in Hamilton this year, he'd be terrible. He is also playing behind a descent O-line. Something Winnipeg has not put together this year, outside of Labatte and Butler. Obby Kahn is a stand up guy, and recovered well from his illness, but is not the player he was many seasons ago.
When its all said and done. We havent had a good quarterback in over 15 years. Matt Dunnigan/Tom Burgess era...
Enter Steven Jyles. The Bombers need to bring in a younger guy whose had some experience but can develop into a CFL household name. Jyles has the arm strength, speed, ability to break tackles and make plays when he needs to. Jyles is 26, and has spent years behind guys like Kerry Joseph and Darian Durant. He's taken a lot of snaps in Saskatchewan in short yardage or out of reach games. The Bombers need to sink some time into him, and build an o-line around him who can protect him and bring us back to a 2 dimensional game to include the run. The way our O-line is creating holes and protecting the pocket this year... our best bet is a cross over in the west.
Hopefully when Asper privatises this team, they sink some serious coin in to video rooms, training facilities and a management team who is serious about signing and retaining good talent.

Yeah, I'm ok with Jyles, and think he'll only get better with experience. Pierce is still our number 1 when he gets back, but I wouldn't doubt that LaPolice may go with Jyles as the number 1 next year if they decide not to bring Piece back for next season.
I to wasn't a fan of Khari Jones.

Serna made 81.6% of his field goal attempts last season. A Bomber record if i'm not mistaken. That is why he has hung onto his job for as long as he has. Which may just be as long as until Monday.

This year it's 45. His downfall is not being able to judge wind conditions and compensate for it. He's an American so he's taking up an import spot that could be better utilized at another position. The Bombers need to find a canadian kicker. And do it fast!
